Would Jordan be a average player in today's league?
I think so Jordan was great for his time but in the 00s the defense tougher and its more competitve compared to when he played
Jordan did come back to play for the Wizards in 2002 and he had a 37-45 record that shows you the league today is better then it was back when Jordan played and today he would be just be a good/average player but not great
The defensive rules have changed.. when Jordan played, if the defender left his man for 5 seconds, he’d be called for illegal defense. That rule has been abandoned to increase scoring in games. Now the NBA allows zone defense, man-to-man, etc..
I would imagine that many of today’s top defensive shooting guards learn and attempt to mimic what Jordan did during his career. If Jordan played in today’s game - shooting guards would have never had the opportunity to learn what Michael does… meaning that Jordan would still be the greatest player on the court - in ANY era.
But if you’re referring to right now.. yea he’d be average cuz he’s in his mid 40’s - but could still hit those clutch shots.
Are you the most insane idiot who has ever lived. First off he was 39 years old and still was a top 20 player in the league.
The Wizards had Chris Whitney, Kwame Brown, Jahidi White, Popeye Jones, Courtney Alexander and some of the other worst drecks ever and they still won 37 games. I forget how Kobe couldn’t make the playoffs when he had Caron Butler and Lamar Odom in 2005. BTW Jordan missed 20 games toward the end of the season due to injury. He still had flashes of 50 point nights. The defense today is not better. No big man knows how to close out today. It is not just about 1 on 1 defense. Close out defense is just as important and not many teams understand how to close out on players.
I Forgot how many teams today play defense like the Knicks of the 90s did or the Pistons of the 80’s did. What a Joke!
"Jordan did come back to play for the Wizards in 2002 and he had a 37-45 record that shows you the league today is better then it was back when Jordan played"
Jordan was 40 years old when he played for the wizards. Are you really that dense? And don’t forget that Jordan is the first and only 40 year old NBA player to score 50 points in a game. I doubt very seriously that we’ll ever see another old man pull that off.
"the defense tougher"
FALSE - back when Jordan played, the defender could hand check. Now hand checking is considered a foul. One of the many rule changes the NBA has installed that makes playing defense harder. The guys back in the 80s and 90s had to work alot harder to score their points.
Read up on your NBA history son. You are sadly ill informed on matters of basketball if you think today’s NBA is better than the old NBA. The ratings for NBA games has dropped for a reason. It’s just not the same league anymore. No one knows how to play defense. The players have half the baskeball IQ that the guys of old did. Today’s NBA is a dumbed down version of what it used to be.
See Guy above me. When children make statements like this it shows their lack of respect and knowledge for the game. Congrats, that’s you kid.
Dont forget, Michael Jordan in the early 00’s was really old. If a young and youthful MJ played in our time, he would still be dominant and everything. Now if we are talking about Bill Russel, Bob Cousey, Pistol Pete, I think they wouldnt be as good as they were during there time.
Same with the great Minnesota Lakers George Miken, he wouldnt even make todays modern NBA
He’d be great, he was over 40 in ‘02!
Competition was worse in 00’s. And when JOrdan came back to play for the wizards he was garbage. That’s like me taking kobe last 2 years in the league and judge his whole career. LMFAO.
what up kb42pah
as you can see a lot of jordan jockers but i think jordan would still be good enough to be on of the better players in the league but him to average thirty points would not happen. other teams would shut him down and force him to give up the ball
If you’re asking whether the Michael Jordan who came into the NBA in 1984 were to be transported to 2009 would he be an average player today? Absolutely not, he would be a dominant player, destroy offenses and defense as he did during the 1980’s and 1990’s and be just as feared today as he was them. If you’re asking what Michael would be like if he came out of retirement and played today, keep in mind he would now be 46 years old and would be an average player compared to players 1 and 2 decades younger than he..
If Jordan can be this athletic and this well-trained in the 80s with sub-par training equipments/methods/etc, don’t you think he’ll be MUCH MORE athletic in this era?
It depends if your talking about him playing with his age right now. Or his prime. If he played right now he wouldnt be so good, mostly because hes like 40 something and all the players in the nba are more athletic than him. If he played in his prime, he would still be great. He wasnt good in 2002 with the wizards because he was growing old and his legs werent as good as before. He also got injured. AND he came from the bench a lot. Jordan would still be a great player if he played in his prime in the nba today.
you are so crazy my friend, jordan is the best .I from chicago and i know he is great
He came back in 2002 and was 40. Plus, he played for the Wizards
Did you even watch Jordan?
The NBA was much better in the 90s than it was now, and it is ignorant to use the 2002 Wizards as an example of how MJ could not compete in today’s game. He put up solid numbers, coming off YEARS of retirement! He was old and not his old self, yet he still averaged 20+ pts both seasons. How many 39 and 40 year olds are averaging 20 points today? None!
Thats a terrible argument, come back with something better. Or try watching one of Jordan’s games, then maybe you’ll realize better basketball was played before you were born in 1999.
i dont think so. jordan had 6 championships! he would get more if he was still young in todays league. he would be better than average
lmao @ this
When Jordan came back in 2001 to play for Washington he was 39-40 years old and was a top 3 MVP candidate through the All-Star break, averaging 25/6/5 (one of only two players in the league to do so) he had the Wizards on pace for 46 wins and in the 6th spot in the East (they won just 19 games the season prior). Then he hurt his knee and the rest is history ….
try again pah
Michael would be the best in any era
Hey man you are that guy from youtube
Whats up i agree
Kobe >Jordan
Kobe is the GOAT
Jordan would be a average player in todays league
Are you whacked! In 02 he was probably over 40. Of course he’ll still be great.
Oh and by the way the defenses were way tougher when he played.
Your totally off. Jordan was 40 when he came back into the NBA! Shaq isn’t even close to 40 and we call him washed up. It shows you what kind of player he was to average 20 ppg at the age of 40. Saying that, the athletes have become better, but Jordan would still be the man in the NBA. At the least he would probably be recognized as having the same skill set as Kobe. At the least.
he was also about 40 years old at that time.
so no, he’s a great player. there were tons of great players then too.
88.3 PPG, 16.2 RPG,12.3 SPG 17.8 APG…his stats
