In the mid 1990's I predicted someone would average a home run every other game and end the season with 81 home runs. Since then we saw McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds bash baseballs like crazy. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone do it, but it may not be for another 30 years.
Of the guys playing now, Prince Fielder or Ryan Howard may have the best shot. Pujols or A-Rod are also good candidates.
When anabolic steroids become legal in the US and used by hundreds of players throughout the league, then I would say that we would see 74 homeruns passed rather easily, with many guys topping out in the mid-to-high 90s. But, as long as the league remains clean, I don't think that any other player will even reach 65.
Definitely yes! Any slugger with an excellent batters eye and smooth swing mechanics can definitely pass Barry's record of 73 HR's. It's difficult to say who, because there are so many talented ballplayers out there, but I see it happening in the near future.
A-Rod has the best chance but if he does it no one is going to care just like no one cared about barry hitting it … I think Matt Holiday would be a good fit for it but i dont see that happening.

A-rod or Utley have the best chance of doing it.
I have a feeling we won't see such a feat happen…….not cleanly and legally, anyway.
Yes i think Albert Pujols will eventually do it.

i see Ryan Howard having a monster season soon and hitting maybe 70 HRs.
however, he is struggling now and idk if this will happen.
If anyone has a chance to do it it will be alex Rodriguez.
a-rod
