Why isn't Miguel Cabrera getting any respect when it comes to the Home Run record?
Let's break it down:
- He is 25 years old
- He is about 5 years from his prime
- He has 175 home runs
- He is ranked 345th all-time
- If you do all the math (I did because I'm bored) he is on pace if he plays untill he is 40 (average) to hit aproximetely 668 homeruns which would put him in 3rd! (Not counting the cheater)
- Ryan Howard (talked about a lot in terms of record) has only 2 home runs more than Cabrera and is 3 years older.
-He has never been seriously injured
AND YET HE SEEMS TO NEVER BE TALKED ABOUT WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE RECORD!!! Why???

And a calculator!!
YAWN!!
Let me know when he gets to 400, if he does?
He is 26. At age 26, Adam Dunn had 178 homers and since then has hit 40 homers each season for 120 more and is now being mentioned on the probability boards as having an 18 % shot at 600 homers.
I don’t think Cabrera can match that.
you cant do math really because by 32 or 33 they start hitting a lot less more home runs. And you brought up ryan howard as an example, but that really isnt a good example because ryan is already 29 and got stuck in the minors for a few years, and ryan won’t even be in the books. miguel could but he would have to stay very consistant
You answered your own question with one statement.
345th all time.
And to be honest, I have never once heard anyone talk about Ryan Howard breaking the home run record.
well i think it is because the cheater Barry Bonds took the thunder from him and other guys along with that he is young…. so he does not get respect and he was on Detroit when this happened, which we all know Detroit was one of the worst teams in baseball. But i have respect for this guy.
No one cares about the HR record anymore. It’s been tainted by steroid using cheaters. Cabrera’s probably also on the juice too.
he is way to young too be involved in any such discussion
probably because he plays on a s****y team
You are correct. He does deserve more respect on the homerun record
I dont really hear Howard talked about much in all time HR record talks. But I agree with you that Cabrera should get some mention
I’m not so sure that your assertion that Howard is talked up (by any REPUTABLE source, anyway) any more than than Miguel Cabrera.
But MLB players actually hit their statistical peak around 28, not 30.
Your calculation seems to assume that Cabrera will hit 33 homers a year, on average, for the next 15 years. I’m not sure how reasonable this assertion is. Sure, during his prime he will no doubt hit somewhere in that range. But on the downside of his career (which would begin at age 31 or so, and therefore take up 60% of the remaining career between now and age 40), he will almost certainly hit fewer than 33, with a continuing decline as he gets older.
When you factor in his physical size, his type of frame generally just doesn’t hold up over the course of a long career, and his avoidance of injury to this point likely does not continue well into his 30s.
The reason Howard, who is not as good an all-around hitter as Cabrera, gets more credit (though I also believe wrongly) as a threat to the all-time home run record is because he puts up generally overwhelming home run numbers every year. Howard’s career low in a full season is 47, which is ten MORE than Cabrera’s HIGHEST total. Per 162 games, he averages 18 more a season. Over the course of 15 years, that’s 270 long balls. Sure Cabrera is younger, but the volume per season currently heavily favors Howard.
