Why is my record player really quiet with no bass? What do I ground the record player to?
I just bought a record player and I am running it through a DVD/receiver. I hooked it up using rca cables but the sound is really quiet and there is no bass. I do not know what I should ground it to. Could that be the problem?
Years ago, all record players needed to be run through a specific input on an amp called "phono". Now many record players have two settings…"phono output" and "line output".
If you are not using a turntable with line output you need to make sure that you are using a phono input. There are many ways of grounding a turntable that I would use as a DJ in pinch…as a consumer though you need only one way that is safe and effective…an amplifier that has a binding post (like a screw) marked something like "phono/turntable/recordplayer ground"…other than that forget it, it's too much hassle.
You can buy a thing called a phono preamp to change your non-line level turntable into a line level one. You run the turntable into the preamp and the preamp into the DVD/receiver/amplifier thing.
But unless you pay bucks, these things don't work that well.
I'd say buy something like a Numark PT01 or a Numark TTX that has line level out.
Hook it up to the Phono input. If u dont have a input with that label, then u will have 2 buy a phono pre-amp to go between the turntable & the reciever. If u have low bass no matter what u are listening 2, then u have to check your speaker connections. All black wires have 2 be in the black slots & color wires with the color slots.
