Why is it when you record your voice using a normal MP3 player, your voice hardly sounds like you?

When you speak, what you "hear" is not only your voice, but a lot of resonance inside your skull and nasal cavities. It makes your voice sound a lot deeper and fuller to you. When you record your voice and play it back, then it sounds "smaller" and usually higher than what you think it should sound like. This happens to everybody.

Ever wonder why you see vocalists either wearing headphones or holding a hand to their ear when recording? It’s because they are trying to hear their own voice more realistically so they can adjust to the best quality that they can sing.

    Well…

It actually does sound like you. The voice that you hear when you talk isn’t your voice. I don’t really know what it is, but something causes you to hear your own voice differently than what other people hear it as. If you record somebody else’s voice, it will probably sound the same to you. However they hear their own voice differently, so they will encounter the same problem you do.

    Hope that helped.

because they are not going to give you a good quality recorder on an mp3 which is less than $100 when you can get good quality songs, plus it is like a phone
