where can i find a portable table for a laptop and dj mixer?
where can i find a portable table that can resize if possible to put a laptop and music mixer on. it needs to be compact enough to put in a car, like i can put in a bag or it can fit into the backseat or trunk of an average car. it's for a dj gig. not too big, sturdy, and possibly resizable please. Preferably black but i won't be picky.
thanks a lot for your help.
I use short, little folding tables that look just like the long folding tables that you see everywhere, in every hall, church, temporary office. I buy the short ones at office supply stores like Staples. The ironic thing is that the short little folding tables are MUCH sturdier than their larger counterparts. In fact, right now I am typing on my laptop, which is perched over a 10 inch mixer, between my two 1200's in cases… all sitting on the 1 meter folding table that they always sit on. AND, no lie, this particular table is 16 years old, and it went on hundreds of gigs before it retired to my living room.
Oh yeah, I used to stuff 2 Yamaha 15" cabinets in the backseat of my Jetta with one of these tables sitting on top of the speakers. It works really well to lift it off the seat/floor with the speakers, because there is actually more clear space near the ceiling than near the seat. That thin space is often wasted when packing a car, but a table slides in like it was made for that!
As far as color, I just throw a black sheet over the top for private gigs (aka 'special days') and run the cables on my side of the table. Actually, I always run the cables on my side. For bars, fraternity parties, and the like, nobody gives a rat's behind about the table!
Another thing to keep in mind is that if a table is too hard to haul, or you don't feel like bringing one, your customers will always come up with a table for you. What are they going to do if you show up without a table? Tell you to leave? Just be confident, like it's expected. When you make contact at arrival, just say, "Do you mind if we check out the tables before I unload the car?" They will always, 100% of the time, find you a table. (Of course, I cringe at some of the tables I've had to set my equipment on in the past! That's why I like to bring my own.) If you are playing in a restaurant, you never need to bring a table, because their tables are super-sturdy, and they need to move them out of the way anyways for the dancefloor. BUT if it's going to be a wild party that could get out of hand, you probably want your own sturdy little table. That will allow you to find the safest positioning before the party even starts.
I found a great folding table at Target that fits in the backseat of my wife's corolla.
I have put my amp, 2 cd decks, mixer, light controller & 2 turntables on it and it stays sturdy…not black but it sure does the job
you can try looking here… they got folding tables
hope this helps
