What’s a good record player to buy? (audiphile/professional answers appreciated)?
I'm not looking for any multi-thousand dollar turntables or DJ equipment...I just want to play all these old records that my parents have in boxes.
Are there still decent new ones you can buy?
Or should I look for a used one?
Please only answer if you are an audiophile or you actually know!
Answers telling me to 'go get an ipod' are not appreciated!
I just purchased an Audio Technica USB Turnrtable. It differs from other USB turntables out there in that it can actually be added to your stereo rack as well as connected to your computer.
I bought it primarily to transfer my old vinyl to my computer but so far I am enjoying just listening to my old albums.
Maybe Gerard With the diamond stylus.
I have an AR inc turntable.
I have a Sony PS-T2 direct drive turntable.
I bought it used and took it to a repair shop in Louisville, KY called Magnetic Tape Recorder at Baxter and Payne Streets.
This is a shop that refurbishes reel to reel tape recorders and cleans and re balances needle arms on turntables.
They charged me $63. for the work including a new diamond needle. I paid $120. for the turntable.
They told me that the direct drive was the best because it doesn’t have a belt that can stretch and slip.
They also told me that I could buy a refurbished one from them for $320.
There should be a similar shop in your city as long as it is of fair size. Louisville is about 1 million in population.
These people are retired and they do it for fun and winter over in Florida. So now is a good time to Google them if you are interested.
Audio Advisor has new turntables beginning at $395 (including a cartridge).
Check them out for inexpensive phono preamps which you may need.
I’ve always been pleased with Audio Advisor purchases.
Enjoy ~
