I'm gonna hijack this a little and remind everyone that, in the UK at least, 45s are making a comeback. More than 1 million were sold (last year?), compared to a paltry 180 thousand a few years back.

Still, the last 45 I bought before I bought my first CD (which was, I think, something like 'The White Room' by the KLF). Then I bought some CD singles (first one being 'Something Good' by the Utah Saints, if memory serves).

Never really bought cassette singles ('No More Tears', Ozzy Osborne, is the only one I can remember right now), for some odd reason.

My final 2c - the future is not MP3s that are downloaded, except perhaps for the single market. Albums are more than just the music, it's the whole product. The sleeve, the artwork, etc. etc.

Having said that, the MP3 market is perfect for 'throwaway' music that you get tired of. Like most of the stuff on popular radio - now and again you get the Artic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Limp Bizkit, or whoever, throwing up music that stays with you, but in the main, it's bubblegum. Loses it's flavor : time to move on.

Hey, that's MY opinion. For now, at least, I'm allowed one.
