Vinyl records From Record player to Computer?
I have this set up:
Record player is connected to a pre amp via coax cables. The pre amp connected to a stereo mixer via coax cables. Mixer connected to PC through line in MIC via one Stereo Coax cable. In order to keep decent quality without crackling i need to keep the pre amp volume as low as i can get it while still being loud enough for the pc to record. If the pre amp is too high the music crackles and pops only while playing through the pc speakers. the quality is fine while playing through a speaker directly connected to the pre amp. Can any one tell me why it crackles when i increase the preamp volume? Thanks.
The big question is: are you using a line-in or a MIC connection on the computer? If you are putting an output from your mixer (1V) into a MIC socket (which is only one channel expecting a few mV) you are bound to get a horrendous overload, which cannot really be corrected with the volume control. If your computer, for some reason, has not got a proper line-in socket, then adding a USB sound adapter is probably the easiest way round.
I have a mixer with a FireWire connection, but that is an expensive luxury.
