Turnstyles and Record Players - How to?
Hi - I am the proud new owner of a Fisher Studio Standard Record Player. I grew up listening to records and it is a sad fact of time that I have NO CLUE how to use this machine. I'm going to need step by step instructions ... including... 1. Does that rubber mat stay in place and the record goes on top of it? 2. What does that weight at the end of the arm do? It has value choices of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, etc. How do I use this? and 3. Can someone really clarify the size of the LP - are the largest records the 45's? (for fully recorded albums, not the singles). HELP!
1. the rubber mat helps the record from not slipping on the platter(what the record sits on and spins around)
2. the weight at the end of the arm is for the amount of force that will be put on the stylus (needle) to the record - those numbers are in grams
typically 1.5 to 2 grams should be sufficient - any more and you are forcing the stylus into the grooves of the record, wearing them and the stylus down - also to much force could break the stylus off the cartididge(what the stylus connects to )
3. 33 1/3 albums are aprox 12" , 45’s are smaller about 7"
