We have a roughly twenty years old Sony stack system featuring a record player, twin cassette deck and five spaced cd player.
I am very fond of it and will rue the day when it finally goes the way of all good things.
I like the sound and smell of our old scratchy vinyl records the oldest of them once belonging to my parents plus a couple of old 78's one being the skater's waltz.
I played an old 45 earlier on which was one of our early purchases,I wonder if you can recall Neil Young's 'Heart of Gold', I would post a link but the one I've found isn't a very good copy, I've also got some old 331/3 LP's which I love to listen to for old times sake.
Hubby groans as he would much prefer to play the more modern day remastered versions.
So can you and do you still like to play records?
I just recently acquired a large collection of vinyl records and I would really like to play them. But I don't know squat about record players. Can anyone recommend a record player that can play many speeds, and manual not stack. I heard Dj turntables and record players were different. And I shouldn't get a turntable. Unless i misunderstood and both are one in the same. And If you know of one that isn't under 100 but under 200 that is fine also. New or Old. Doesn't matter to me. I would like something vintage if possible.
Hello i am looking to purchase my fiancé a record player for Christmas to play vinyl records on.
I have purchased a few records to go with player, and i am now looking to purchase the player itself.
However i am slightly confused. I purchased the below record.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Back-Black-VINYL-Amy-Winehouse/dp/B000P5FG1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291806509&sr=8-1
I was looking to purchase the below player
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5139316/Trail/searchtext>TURNTABEL.htm
I was wondering if the record would play ok. It states 33 and 45 rpm speed turntable, what does this mean? There have been some i have seen that have stated 78 rpm to. What is the difference? Would the above record i purchased work ok on this player.
Sorry if i sound dumb. The oldies dont know much about modern tech, i not know much about old tech lol.
Many thanks
I recently decided to collect vinyl records as a hobby. I don't have a record player yet but eventually I will get my hands on one. Does one (record player) work for all the different size and speed of vinyls? (Ex: 7'',10'',12'' and 33 RPM, 45 RPM) Also, can anyone recommend a good record player that can be bought on Ebay or more ideally in stores?
Im clueless in these matters so every bit of information will be appreciated greatly! Thank you
I'm very interested in vinyl records but I'm not sure if I want to start investing in them. I heard they are extremely easy to damage and they are also not the most portable (though if I do start buying vinyl I'll probably get a record player that can convert to MP3.) I love the way they look and I've heard that they sound amazing. From what I've seen they are also more expensive than CDs, so I don't want to start paying a lot for them if I'm really not sure. Opinions?
Unfortunately, I was not around for vinyl records and record players, and I find them to be extremely fascinating and aggravating because I cannot work one! I was wondering if there was a way to make a home-made record player to play my parents old records without destroying them. Maybe that way I can play my Christmas present!
Thank you. Although I was really looking for instructions; your is still pretty cool! Thanks for the help!
I want to buy a Vinyl Record Player for my friend. He wants to get into listening to Vinyl records. Where can I buy one in Toronto and what are some good brands to look out for? He won't be using it as a turntable or for scratching - just for listening.
Thanks!
i was gonna ask mah mom if i could bid on a vintage record player on ebay, but i was wondering if all records work on every record player. and will vinyl records from hot topic work on a vintage record player? and if said record player is beteen 5 and 10 dollars and they say it works, will it work? wil it be cheap or is this person just feeling generous? thanks. and hurry, bid ends soon.
also, how much are records from hot topic.
My parents have bought a fonograph/CD player/radio combo, and it works fine. I have also found out that we have LPs and 45 RPM records, which are in good condition. But I want to preserve them so they really last a long time. There's a lot of dust that ocassionally (not too often, though) collects on their surface, and that worries me; what if it affects the record's quality? If anyone has some helpful tips on cleaning them without damaging them, please tell me. Also, it would be nice to know a safe place that I can store my 45 RPM records; they don't have any protective sleeves or covers at the time.... Thanks for your help!
Thank you everyone who has given me advice on how to care for vinyl records and the sort. I have learned much about them now... thanks for telling me soon!
Everyone has been helpful in answering this question. There can't exactly be a best answer because there's different tips, all of which are helpful. I'll check out the record-cleaning supplies soon, AslanMusic. Thanks everyone!!
ok so i love vintage things so i was like why not ask for a record player (or turntable) for christmas but i don't know if i would ever use it do they still make vinyl and if so do they put music from that last couple of years on it like ( this is just an example I do not expect to find this) do they make a vinyl record with miley cryus or taylor swift but if you do know then could you tell me the names of some bands or singers that have vinyl records
I want to listen to my vinyl records and i want to know what system to get. Does a turntable need speakers to listen to it? If it does then i might just have to get a record player. Just something that you can put your record on it and listen right then and there.
I heard it was legal to download songs off of limewire (or any of the big file sharing programs) if you own the CD that they are on. Since vinyl records have superior sound quality over MP3 music files I was wondering if i could buy a vinyl record then dl the songs on it off of limewire for portable MP3 player use legally. If it is legal, that rocks. If not, oh well.
I have a ton of vinyl records and would like to be able to put them onto my computer so I can transfer them to an iPod or a Zune so I can listen to them. How do you get music off of vinyl and onto a computer in Mp3 format? I have a record player and a computer, but no idea how to link the 2. Suggestions?
I am moving to England soon, and I want to take my vinyl records with me, and buy a vinyl player when I get there. Does anyone know if I can use my U.S. made vinyls on an English record player, or should I just buy a U.S. made player, and then buy a power converter?
I just recently inherited a couple hundred vinyl records and a record player. Some of them are in sleeves, some not. What is the best way to store these records where I can easily access them when I want to listen to them? I don't want them to get damaged but I don't want to just box them up and put them in the attic either. I'd like to actually use them.
I got it off ebay. I don't know what size records it plays...12" 6" 7" 45" ect. But I also just bought a whole bunch of 7in records that are rare, and spent 0s on them...will I be able to play the 7" vinyl records that I just got? Even if it is another size?
Hi. I recently was given a second hand record player by a friend. I am ashamed to say that although i have listened to loads of vinyl records when i was a kid (my dad lost all his records and player during a move) i do not know anything about actually playing a record! i am 19 now. I have always loved the sound compared to cds and now i want to build up a vinyl collection from scratch. I still have one 7 inch record and another 12 inch one.My player Semi-automated turntable and has two speed knobes - 33and 45.and as far as i can see there is no needle on the edge of that handle thingy. its just a square like thing. Can someone explain what all this means very simply. I have spent hours online trying to read up on this but i have gotten even more confused with all the terms. what is EP and LP? what is 78 rpm, 45 rpm, 33⅓ rpm? what records should i buy? what player plays what kind of record? i can't ask my parents cause they are not around. Please please help me out. sorry if i sound stupid but this is a part of my childhood that i want back. thanks alot
My player is a semi-automated turntable Sherwood PD-701B

I have a NEW small vinyl record player that was gave to me and I was looking at some new & used vinyl record juke boxes. I would like to buy one.
But I was wordering if thay manufactuer brand new vinyl records today?
If so. Plese give me any website that sales them.
I just purchased a vintage Crosley record player that is built into a cabinet and has a radio next to it. I am guessing it is from the 40's or so, it only plays glass records.
I am wondering 2 things:
1. Where can I get information on this record player
2. I can't play any of my vinyl records without it sounding like the chipmunks. The record player has only one speed but I have a few RPM adjusters that are circular shaped... but have NO idea how these work... anything will help!
I was given an entry level ION USB record player for Xmas. Since then, I have invested in some new vinyl records. Although I'm happy with the player, I was wondering if I can make it sound even better with a new catridge. I was looking to buy the Shure M97xE High-Performance Magnetic Phono Cartridge. Will this improve the sound, or is it just a waste of money?
I want a record player that plays vinyl records, cds, and has am/fm radio. I was hoping not to have to pay over 0 dollars for it.
Oh and if possible one that has ipod dock as well.
For a while now, I didn't know that you could still purchase vinyl records of current music. My grandpa gave me this old turntable a few months ago and some of his old records from the '60s and such, and I ended up looking online only to discover that you could purchase some of today's music on vinyl. I got very excited, because I am into retro things and a vinyl collection sounds pretty cool to me.
But can anyone tell me if starting a vinyl collection will be very expensive? My grandpa's player is old as all get out, so I would want to purchase a new turntable and speakers. Best Buy is the only place in town I've found that even sells record players anymore, and the cheapest is a Sony for 9 or so. Do you have to spend a lot of money to get a good one, and will the sound be worse or better than CD quality? Also, how much do contemporary records run? The website I say had them for like or so, is that about average?
Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks. I really want to start this new hobby.
so basically the story was like this i was a friend of mine and like i had to stay out coz they were recording a session and i see this young kid DJ-ing on this record player look like one of the FISHER PRICE VINTAGE RECORD PLAYER 'VINYL'
but his wasnt like the fisher price one it was like an old school seasme street ones this young kid had it with a cookie monster which was pretty sick.
so yeah heres my question

thanks for answering looking forward.
I have bought some vinyl records around thrift/music stores lately, but still I have no clue as to what record player to buy! Should I go used or new? I really have no background with records/players so I don't know much. I want to stay under 0 with a basic setup......
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
So I listen to a lot of punk and indie music, and I have run into a lot of situations where I would really like to buy vinyl records instead of cds. Are 7" the most common? or 12"? Or something in between? What do I need to get to play records? How do I know what kind of record player is best for what kinds of vinyl I want to get into buying?
Help please, if you know a lot about this stuff. Links and stuff appreciated too.
