We have a roughly twenty years old Sony stack system featuring a record player, twin cassette deck and five spaced cd player.

I am very fond of it and will rue the day when it finally goes the way of all good things.

I like the sound and smell of our old scratchy vinyl records the oldest of them once belonging to my parents plus a couple of old 78's one being the skater's waltz.

I played an old 45 earlier on which was one of our early purchases,I wonder if you can recall Neil Young's 'Heart of Gold', I would post a link but the one I've found isn't a very good copy, I've also got some old 331/3 LP's which I love to listen to for old times sake.
Hubby groans as he would much prefer to play the more modern day remastered versions.

So can you and do you still like to play records?

looking to by a record player! is there any extra good brand or are they all pretty much the same? i don't really care if it s new or used i just want it to work :) other than the brand, any suggested models?

I really want a vintage looking record player that you can hook you ipod up too that also has great quality! IS there even one like there out there?? I love old records, but i also want it to be under 400 dollars.

My parents had this old record player in the 80's, but it wasn't just a record player. It was this large piece of furniture. It was wood, and the was rectangular, and had 3 sections. The two end sections were speakers and the middle section would play records and 45's and so on. So, this huge piece of furniture had a fla surface on top like a table, but to access the record part, you could open the "lid" in the middle. Anyways, this thing was hideous, but at the time, it was like the "in" thing to have. As a 50th birthday surprise for my mom I am doing a vintage party and would love to find one of these. I kept trying to google but cannot find a picture of it...If I knew the name of the item that would really help. Thanks!!

Its by Columbia Extended Play Mary Martin The Sound of Music Original the 45" old small record player records its A Rogers and Hammerstein Records, Inc. Productions there are about 5 records and I just wanted to know if they are worth anything . The Sound of Music I have opened up in October 13,1959 at the Shubert Theatre in Boston and on November 16 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York if someone is interested or knows something about these records I would like to find out my e-mail address is gylsarah@aol.com

I am a college student, living in a tiny house with one other person. I feel like my living space has the potential to positively affect my mood and creativity, when decorated and organized thoughtfully. My bedroom is kind of eclectic vintage. I have two matching pale yellow vintage pieces (dresser and desk) a colorful flowered quilt on bed, and photography and records pinned/taped all over the walls. Low lighting, candles, books and a record player. This reflects my style to a certain extent.

Everything is tiny- kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedrooms. We have a huge couch that takes up the majority of the living room. It's deep brown with tan and light mocha cushions. Ive made a photo collage on the main wall, although I am open to ripping that down. Also, we have a tv mounted to the wall adjacent to the couch. I am usually very creative, but this space seems so limiting given the pre-existing furniture, and conditions (limitations of renting).

Any advice and suggestions will be über appreciated. Thank you!!

I have been looking for the exact same record player, Statham uses throughout the film, when in his home. It is the sleek, elegant white record player, which in the end is a explosive trap to Ben Foster.

I have just purchased a used record player, along with a few new vinyls. When I plugged it into my amp and began to play the record, after a few minutes, the sound became very scratchy and unclear. I have made sure all the plugs are plugged FULLY in, I just purchased a new cartridge and the sounds is still scratchy. I have played music on the amp and speakers from my computer, and it sounds fine.

My family's moving, and so I get to re-decorate my new bedroom however I please! I'm looking for a sort of indie/vintage feel to it (I'm buying a record player, for example). Anything from wall coloring ideas to cool projects to unique accessories is appreciated. Also, if you have any specific links, those would help a lot. Thanks everyone.

Something's definitely been up with my record player lately, and I'm in no position to say whats wrong since this is the first one I've owned and have only had it for 10 months or so.
I noticed when I played a new record I got last week(BRAND new, not just new to me) souned a little funny kind of scratchy and trebble-ey but I figured that maybe it was just the record itself...but I've had a problem with three brand new records in the recent past. One I got in January skips in a loop at the end of the last song, which doesn't bug me much since I can just lift the needle and I'm not really missing any of the record....the one I got last week had the trebble-like quality and skipped too, just not in a loop. Today I just got my Doncamatic/Empire ants 45 and I can't listen to the empire ants side at all because it starts a loop skip 20 seconds into the song and the doncamatic side has the same trebble stuff going on and skips near the end.

The record/tape player I have came from my grandma, the only brand it shows on it is sears.

Do I need a new needle or a new player? Also are my new LPs going to be fucked over now? If I do get a new needle or player would it still skip because of the "bad" play on this one?
Yeah, the player has a lever..what's how I would take the needle off when it would skip on loop (it was definitely down).

Theres no adjustment for the weight of the needle, but I had never thought of that...so I put a penny on top of the end of the needle arm and it fixed the skipping perfectly.
It still has an annoying trebble-quality so I think I need to invest in a new needle anyways since it hasn't been changed in who knows how long(I havn't changed it since I got it and I don't know when my grandma ever changed it)

Thank you so much for the help, I never would have remembered the penny trick if you didn't mention weight.

I'm looking for this sound effect where every sound suddenly stops, it's use in comedies and trailers a lot, when someone says something funny, there's this sudden stop sound to emphasize the joke. I think it done using a record player, what is the name of this sound effect? thanks

The other day I bought a 1948 Admiral TV. The people in the store said it still works, so I got a surge protector, plugged the TV into that, and plugged the surge protector into my outlet. I had the knob on the TV on off. I hit the on button on the surge protector, and there was a flash from my TV and then the power in that outlet and my living room stopped working. I began sniffing the air for a burning smell, it took a few minutes till I smelled a faint smell, but then it went away. I sniffed the outlet, the plug, the surge protector, and TV, but none of that was the source of the smell. I unplugged it all and tested the surge protector elsewhere and it worked fine. I had to go in the basement and flip the power off and on and the power started working in the outlet and the living room again. This happened before when I plugged in my New Record Player (Not antique, It also has a tape player, cd player, and radio.) and a lamp and the power went out on the outlet and living room. My mom is too afraid for me to try to plug in the TV else where again unless I get proof that it is the outlet and not the TV's doing.
It turns out it was ripped where the cord came out of the TV and now there is a scorch mark on my wall, thank you everyone for your answers. The cord was just torn and had the wires showing and it was touching the back of my wall. I was basically ripped off when they said it still worked. Now I gotta figure out how to get a new cord thing.

my grandma gave me her mothers old record player and a ton of 45's and 72 records they spent a long time in her garage does anyone know the best way to clean them??

I have this great old record player in my basement. It hasn't been used in years however and now every time I go to use it, regardless of the artist, it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks got drunk and got behind a microphone.

I would really like to be able to play some of the great albums we have laying around the house so if someone could explain the cause of this horrible sound and how I can fix it that would be great! Thanks!

I have no clue what to paint my room. My furniture is a little strange.
Here it is basically:
-antique desk painted sea foam green with white trim and knobs
-a silvery light lavender velvet vintage chair
-light walnut colored (wood) dresser and antique nightstand that's close to the same color
-White metal day bed
-Black velvet curtains and matching pillows
-black mirror (it's a flat black rather than shiny)
-Black and White damask bedding
-hot pink rose hook on the wall
-cherry red mahogany record player (brand new but made to look like a vintage radio)
-red velvet accents (pillows and box)
-the carpet is greyish but with a purple tint like the chair
-I'm painting plain white picture frames a shiny golden color and putting them on a blank wall
-Cream colored lampshade
- a few leopard print accents

Yeah, it's strange I know, but I don't plain on being to matchy matchy or anything. I just want a color that will make it look complete because now it just looks like I have a room full of stuff. Any ideas?

My obsession with vinyls is insane! i love the player works but i have too many CDs as it is. I want something like the needle but is actuall a laser reader. Plus i need it to look like a record player from the 70's. Please tell me where i can find this or even how i can make it. Thanks

i got my parents old record player from the attic to play records but its needle is gone/broken and i don't know what kind of needle i need or where to buy. the model of the record player is a (kenwood direct drive fully automatic kd 77f) need to find what type of needle it uses and where to buy it.

It's a legit record player with needle and all with the spin but the record's red and it's just a controller for the music from the computer

I recently got a turntable and bought some used vinyls for it. One of my vinyls plays wonderfully and doesn't have any scratches, but it appears to be warped and wobbly. I can visibly see the arm of the record player bobbing up and down as the record turns. Is it okay to play the record, or will it damage my record player?

I am searching for the right type of record player. I want one that delivers high quality sound, but also one that looks good, not some plastic pos. Also, one that is durable. Nice features would be nice too. I already have a nice Grado Prestige Gold1 cartridge. So, i want to put it to use. I was looking the following brands: Pioneer, Denon, Harmon Kardon, Ion, and Technics. Please put the model number so i can look it up.

I just recently acquired a large collection of vinyl records and I would really like to play them. But I don't know squat about record players. Can anyone recommend a record player that can play many speeds, and manual not stack. I heard Dj turntables and record players were different. And I shouldn't get a turntable. Unless i misunderstood and both are one in the same. And If you know of one that isn't under 100 but under 200 that is fine also. New or Old. Doesn't matter to me. I would like something vintage if possible.

I got my dad's record player a few months ago but he didn't have any speakers, just headphones. I have been using the headphones but I would really like some speakers so I can play it loud. I have checked online and can't seem to find any. What is a good place to buy some good quality speakers for my record player? Preferably in store but doesn't have to be

When my grandma passed I got her record player, it was amazing until I realized that the crazy old lady never even replaced her needle. Unfortunately the record player is extremely old and from a company most people haven't heard of. Now I'm wondering will a needle for a Sony or a Crosley fit in my Electro Brand (model 9166) player. If you know where i can get a needle for my player please also help, It plays 33's and 45's

my record player uses the fisher st05 needle and once i take off the actual needle cartridge there is a rubber piece that the needle rests upon. now this rubber piece is not part of the needle cartridge but it is a little worn. do i need to replace this part along with the needle in order for it to work properly?
