My wife recently brought home a mid-1950s RCA "New Orthophonic" record player, model 7-HF-5.

The player has three speakers-- a centrally mounted 6.5-inch main speaker, and two auxiliary 3.5-inch speakers pointed away from the main speaker's projection at 45-degree angles.

I am attempting to restore this record player to good working condition. I have replaced the tubes and the needle (not the easiest things to find) and now need speakers (which seem impossible to find) because the originals are busted. In fact, the main speaker is nothing but a metal frame-- the original either rotted away or was broken by abuse. The auxiliary 3.5s have a couple of small torn places in the cones and generally sound pretty cruddy.

I was informed by a home and car audio tech today that I certainly wouldn't be able to replace them with simple car audio speakers, even though the original units are the same size as some fairly common car audio speakers. He said the impedance would probably be all wrong and thus I'd run the danger of ruining the record player's vintage amplifier unit.

The tech attempted to check the impedance of my old speakers, but was only able to get a good reading off of one of the 3.5-inch units, which measured at 3 ohms. He said we could assume the other 3.5-inch unit would have measured the same reading, but he couldn't say for sure what the 6.5-inch unit would measure. He said if he had to hazard a guess, he'd guess it would come in at around 10 ohms because the two 3.5-inch units were chained off of the 6.5-incher. But he said that's just a guesstimate, and he wouldn't buy any replacement speaker based on that.

Does anybody know the ohms of the 6.5-inch speaker in these old record players? Or where I can buy replacement speakers for it?

I'm fairly adept at minor audio repairs-- I've replaced speakers for much larger enclosures used in live music performance in the past-- but when it comes to home audio stuff this old, I'm a newbie and need a little help finding good sources for repair parts, user manuals, etc. (FYI, I'm going to try to contact RCA about it, but I don't necessarily expect much help there since this thing is more than 50 years old.)

If evolution took place, then why has mankind gone from writing upon stones to laser printers in just the past 3,500 years?

So why is it that mankind has only discovered better inventions in the past few thousand years?

If we evolved, as evolutionists claim, then why didn't man discover ink a thousand years ago?

There were NO planes, cars, computers, refrigerators, electricity, lights, gas, powered-equipment, telephones, recording devices, CD players, MP3 players, other modern technological inventions--just a mere 170 years ago.

This is just another undeniable PROOF that evolution is a lie. If mankind had evolved, then men would have discovered these inventions a very long time ago

It's amazing to me how people continually place God and the Bible on trial; yet unquestioningly accept the teaching of evolution by some teacher or "scientists". This just shows their wicked heart of unbelief in the Word of God

I take the Word of God anyday!!
If we evolved at least 10000 years ago, we would have invented all those things a long time ago but we didn't! Only a few hundred years! Because we NEVER evolved!!

(Is it illegal to sell, if not worth?) I have a signed "Ace of Spades Card" by Saddam Hussein. I got it signed when I was in the 75th Ranger regiment 48 hours after his capture. Upon his capture I was given 48 hours to be in Iraq to releive other personell from the Ranger Battalions so that they could go on missions with their squads. (I was Headquarters 75th Ranger Regiment.) I was a Special Operations Combat Medic and was responsible for his health and welfare working directly under a Physician. I would sit in a room with him on 8 hour shifts rotating out with other Ranger Medics. With me watching him were officers, mainly flight guys, who were responsible for taking notes on his daily activities from when he prayed to what he ate. I have several items that could be offered for authentication: 1.) Special operations job specialty certification paperwork 2.) Proof of serving in the unit with official government forms. 3.) Deployment papers for that time frame. 5.) Copy of his ekg and notes on the meds prescribed to him. 6.) Official witness statement dealing with another high ranking High Value Target/Priority Detainee that makes reference of Saddam as "Priority Prisoner Number 1" as all references were secret often being referred to over the Radio as "Elvis." 7.) Testimony of another Ranger Medic who I got Saddam to sign for him as well. These are probably the only two in existance. His being not of the "standard" Ace of Spades Card. Might be from a different country than the U.S. who pioneered the idea of the "deck of cards" which had all the highest value targets -Generals and such. His is colored. Don't know much about where he got it. 8.) Can provide digital photograph of his signature. I would like to do this actually as I am not sure if he wrote his signature or a snide remark. (Don't read Arabic or whatever.) I am wondering how much this would be worth. I once tried to find out by putting it on e-bay but the best I was offered was 200 dollars from some guy who was incharge of a big prison somewhere. (Our detention center was very small and secret. He wasn't moved to his larger pacility or wherever he went to till about a month after being with us in Bagdad.) I had put a reserve on it for 10,000 grand, but had no intention of selling it. (This cost me 100 dollars.) Asked several people how much it'd be worth both on yahoo answers and places like antique roadshow to try to get a hold of the proper appraisers...to no avail. For the most part I didn't get a response, and the ones I did get didn't beleive I was a former ranger. All of this can be substantiated of course. Please let me know how much you think this would be worth and if you'd be interested in selling it. P.S. The photo of him in his underwear reportedly went for about a quarter of a million and unoficially I may know who took it. It wasn't me though. The guards wanded me everytime and there was two sets of guards to get through wit

I have a Sony LBT-ZT4 stereo through which I'd like to play a record player/turntable. I'm wondering what I'd need to look for in a record player/turntable in order for this to work. The inputs on the stereo are a mini-stereo and a 1/4" stereo that is amplified (i.e. I can play my guitar through it). So would I be able to play a turntable without a preamp through the amplified input? Or would I need a turntable with a preamp, even though the input is amplified? I really don't wanna buy a receiver or any other components. I don't know that much about stereo equipment and all that stuff, and I know almost nothing about turntables except that I like how they sound... Also, I'd love some suggestions about nice, sub-0 turntables (new or used) and any personal experience people have with connecting record players to stereo sets. Thanks!!!!

Summary:
Two roommates, one we'll call R and another E. E is my boyfriend's sister and has turned out to be a complete brat. We moved in Sept. 15th and have a one year lease. At this point E has consistently disrespected our belongings and the lease agreement to an extent. She gave her boyfriend of one month, as well as mine/her brother when R and I told her several times we were not comfortable with that. No reason to either since our landlord is on the other side of this twin house and works out of it his home. He comes home with her at 5 and leaves at 8am when they go to work. There were several times inwhich I caught him in our home without anyone there. The first was when I came home from church. I know I locked the door and I came home to find him in the bathroom with his laptop already set up and tv on. He said the door was unlocked, that he just got there, and that E had told him she would be there in a ten-fifteen minutes. That did not match up with the scenario. Not to mention E did not come home for another ten min. Besides, why would he try to get into the house when there are no cars in the driveway, aka no one home. There were other times when I was downstairs and he came to the door and stopped going for the door knob when he saw me. E did not come home for 45 min-an hour. Again he said "E told him she would be home soon." Similar situations have also occurred. He has been at our house even more frequently since E was supposedly "allowed to work from home" though she is never working on her work laptop. Since her 90 probation period (graphic designer with a desk job from 8-5) ended around the same time as this began we are assuming she is currently unemployed and her boyfriend is supplying money for rent. Her dog has also become an issue. The only pet allowed on the lease is R's cat, though there was a verbal agreement that the dog was allowed to be there on the weekends with R's permission. The dog is there everyday. The animal poops/pees everywhere and prevents R from letting her cat out due to the dog's tendency to pee/poop in R's room (which she has to leave open so the cat has access to the litter box.) In the second month E 'assigned' chores. When I refused to do mine (trash), considering I'm an adult who cleans up after herself, she went into my room and put the trash and recyclables next to my bed. Another problem we have encountered is her constant moving/stealing/hiding our personal property. In the beginning she hid my brand new chess set saying it was 'in her way' and she would not return it because i would put it back on the side table. Please note all the furniture in the house is R's. I finally found it after digging through one of the closets. In the past month she has also stolen, and damaged my record player. She first moved it into the closet, without my permission, because she wanted to use that space as bench style seating (it was on top of R's hope chest and a blanket which she allowed me to do.) When I returned home that night it was not there and neither was the key to the shed. I had to go to my landlord and ask him to open the shed where I found not only my record player but a box of dvds. Her excuse was that "her friend had beer on it and didn't want it to get ruined" I, again, returned the record player to the its original spot. The next night I came home to find it gone. When I looked in the closet I found that it literally had been tossed in there. It was slanted and falling off of two vacuums. My box of dvds had also been tossed in there and they had spilled everywhere. That night our landlord go involved. She told him the record player was a hazard because "it was a tripping hazard, and, should her dog jump up there, could easily slide off". Eventually, I decided to move it upstairs due to her constant threats of 'future action'. It was then that I realized it was broken. The phono button had broke off causing the connection to the speakers to fail. R's father was able to fix it (he's an electrical engineer) but the fact remains. Recently she has taken to petty things, that aren't of legal value but demonstrate the living conditions: she constantly curses me out, says completely disrespectful things about myself, my boyfriend, my job and my family. She invites people over only to gossip for hours (3 hrs. today) about me. Her verbal abuse has caused my pre-existing depression to worsen to the point of relapse. Please note my room does not have a door, only a spiral staircase leading up to it so I cannot even escape to my room. Sometimes she even screams up it at me. She fails to do any chores and has left it to the point that two weeks had gone by and we were practically out of everything.
Now today, our landlord promised us he would evict her under the condition we cover her rent. We agreed. He brought her in and told her. In the end we discovered our landlord did not have any real reason for evicting her and was playing 'hardball' without even telling us. M

Was it a record player that you called it? A Hi-Fi? Did yu play 10 45's at one time, as they clicked down you danced in front of your mirror or had a twist party? AND.....WHAT WAS YOUR VERY FIRST RECORD THAT "YOU" PURCHASED? *wayback maching going on here*...lol...have fun!

First of all, I'm not a total video junkie, but I have literally 100s of full length movies that I haven't watched yet. I also don't have like millions of songs, I have approximately 250 songs I actually listen to. I want an mp4 player that will last. I don't want a huge screen, but big enough to watch movies on. I don't mean like sit down and watch a two hour full length movie. I mean like watch a 30-45 minute segment here and there, or maybe watch some various short-length cartoon films. I want a good compromise of a large ENOUGH screen (2.5" is a-okay) and a small/compact size. However, battery life IS important as well, so a 2.4/2.5 inch screen is fine if I can have like 7 hours of videos or whatever on it.
I will be mostly listening to music and watching short videos, maybe looking at a few pictures, not really important to me. I don't care about music protection- all my music is just plain ol' mp3. Fm radio is nice. Idc about voice recording.
Any opinions on meizu mini-player?
My thought about meizu are that it is a great all-around player, and I don't mind the navigation issues some ppl report-I'm not going to be fiddling TOO much with it, and if I do, i can take my time.

If I do get it, it WILL be the 2 gb version. I'm not paying 100 bucks for 2gb extra memory.

my main problem with it is the lack of an sd card slot! I'm going to be traveling to russia, and I'm not really going to have much access to any computers (I have an ac adapter tho), so I NEED to have all my stuff already put on SD cards.

So basically, is there ANOTHER player with similar capabilities that DOES support an sd card slot?

Finally- I'm hesitant to pay a WHOLE lot on the player, but if there is one that REALLY sticks out for 90-100 bucks, please post it.

If you have any opinions, thoughts, etc. And especially if you OWN an awsome mp4 player, please post! Best answer will get full stars.
last point.

I'M NOT BUYING AN IPOD! It has to have a decent screen, and I just dont take to ipods in general. The lack of external speaker combined with lack of FM radio combined with painful music playing options...

just, NO to apple products.

Simply because...(and correct me on this, I'm no hip hop historian).

Hip hop was initially turntablism and breaking...But people make out like the first and second waves of MC's were super lyrical and had nothing but socially and politically charged lyrics.

To me..That's like saying Rock and Roll started with Progressive Rock or that Jazz started with Free Jazz..

Lastly...Is it me or do the majority of the "Bring Back The 90's!" brigade seem like they weren't even alive in hip hop's "Golden Age".?

Where do hip hop's roots stem from (TO YOU)? and what type of hip hop best represents the genre?

I'm looking for a song called something like "Shermans Atlanta March". I and my sister can both remember listening to it on the record player as kids, but I can't find it on either the 45's or LP's I inherited from my parents. Don't know if this helps or not, but I was born in '68 (but my parents had records from long before that). I couldn't even find this on Google, so ya'll are my last hope. Here are some of the lyrics I remember-"through the smoke, through the flames, over the canons roar-We could hear them Yankees call, We ain't scared of ya'll". Well, now that I've established myself as a total hillbilly, I'll leave it up to the good people on Yahoo Answers to help me out!

Alright, so... I'm reading about Turntablism and the 2001 movie Scratch on wikipedia. I get what a DJ is and an MC is, one being the person that runs the tracks, the other being the announcer for events...yes i get that. What i don't understand is their comparative existence in rap. For instance, DJ QBert vs MC Hammer. I understand they're just names...but there has to be a more ontological reason for either being a "DJ __" or MC ___. Is one supposed to be analogous (maybe even homologous) to the producer and the other analogous (maybe homologous here as well) to the Singer, or rock star, or whatever you want to call it?

I hope my fusion of geekiness and love of rap wasn't too obvious.

linkin park - "cure for the itch" and "session" which both r mr. hahn's solo songs. i basically just want turntablism of that style. NO hip hop!!

Hey there, I am in desperate need of a free software or program that i can use to record sound from computer directly. Mine is Vista laptop and all that "Show disabled devices"doesn't do anything. Only way for me is to get a program or software and make it work and please consider those you have used and tried. I am looking to record online windows media player streams in Windows Vista Thanks!

I have a GE record player and it came with a 45 spacer. Apparently it's supposed to just "slide on" but it's proving to not be so easy. I have included a picture of what the adapter looks like. Can someone please explain to me how to use it properly?

Hello, I would like to hear from some people as what their thoughts are on this. Everynight, and I do mean everynight, as I lay down to go to sleep at night, I hear music. When I get up to locate the source, I can find none. I have been having this go on for two months, this time. I have had it happen before around the time my mom passed away. I can hear music and singing, however I cannot make out any words whatsoever. Last night I gave myself a headache trying to concentrate on it. My partner who was in the bed next to me, could not hear a thing. It reminds me of an antique radio as far as sound quality goes. It almost sounds like I am listening to it through a tin can...it has a "tinny" sound. It is starting to drive me nuts as I get up every night trying to locate where the sound could be coming from, but as soon as I start searching, it's gone. Any thoughts on this?? Serious answers only please
I have thought about the brain issue however it's not that. And to Fireball....dont judge me and my lifestyle, you have no clue what I have been thru in my life. Apparently you cannot read well as I stated it starts as soon as I lay down...so unless I dream awake, its not that I'm dreaming. And which god would you have me repent to??? the one that died on the cross for ALL of US not just you. that response had nothing to do with my question so keep your comments to yourself.
Thanks for the serious answers. As far as the mental aspect goes, most schizophrenics dont question the voices they hear. They think it's normal..this was told to me by a doctor. And the fact that I thought I was crazy, pretty much means I'm not as I wouldnt be sane enough to question it. I appreciate the responses. I have looked into heating vents...mine are up high but nothing. I dont know if I mentioned this, but I have had this happen before in a different house around the time my mother passed away. I will continue to look into it.thanks again

1. Who was the accordian player on "Lawrence Welk."?
2. Who yelled out in a movie, "STELLAAAAAAA."?
3. Who played the sax in The Dave Clark 5."?
4. Besides Michael Landon, what other member of the "Little House" cast did some of the directing on the show?
5. What group recorded, "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress."?
6. What vintage tv show did Clint Walker appear on?
7. "Are we having fun, yet" was first said by what actress in what movie?
8. What member of the cast of "Gunsmoke" was once in a singing group?

I was asked this question and I replied "Jam Master Jay". This is coming from a documentary I saw. It could be more of a turntablism type of doc. I'm not sure......

Could anyone tell me more about the Serenade doll made in the 1960's. I believe she stands about 12" to 18". She has blonde hair that I think was in a ponytail. She came with a pink record player and a 45 record. She had a built in speaker and used a Dvolt battery. I also believe the doll was made by mattel. Her head was a soft vinyl and her body was hard plastic.

I was looking at buying a record player for my husband. The brand is "olympic bsr" found it at a store but it has no needle for the turntable. How much would it be to buy a needle and do i need to look for a specific type of needle or are they all the same? It plays 78, 45, and 33 if that makes a difference! As you can tell I don't know much about record players!! I dont even know if Olympic is a good brand :\ If you have any advice that would be GREAT! Thanks a ton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it matter if they're 7" or 12"?

I have acquired a few old 78rpm records. Now, i have a record player that can play at the rate of 78, but it seems there is a problem with a few of the records. The record just sounds sped up, just by a bit, but it makes the song sound high-pitched, and annoying. I am wondering if this is a fault of the record, or just that some records are too fast for modern players?

I also have another question concerning records. I very recently got another record, which unfortunately has been cracked (The label is Coral, which seems to create VERY easily brake-able records). The crack doesn't affect play much, except for the occasional "pop". Now, my question is, at the beginning of the song (this will be difficult to explain), the music starts, then when the singers come in, their voices are contorted in a strange echo-y, and fuzzy way, only for the one beginning line, then the rest of the song is normal. My guess would be dirt, or something similar causing this, for i have yet to acquire a cleaner. But i just wanted to know if it was (again) the record itself.

I hope all that made sense, i try to explain best i can. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :]

I just bought a portable vintage record player from an antique dealer and it doesn't have a needle. I'm having a hard time finding a similar model online. It's a Zenith, and I think the model is a ZP2. I really don't know much about record players, and I think I may need a cartridge as well.
It says the model is a "ZP2"

I've been looking for this song for 15 years, and I fianlly found an old 70's vinyl. It's the smaller kind if that makes a difference. The song is Andre Marie Tela's "Je vais a Yaounde". Anyway I have no way to play it, and instead of buying a vinyl record player, I'd rather have a digital copy or on CD, which is actually legal, if you have the original. Anyway is there anywhere I can go, like the Musical Version of Office Max? I live in San Francisco,CA.

it's so old, that even ALL the "Google" sites they gave me couldn't match my model number. Any suggestions?
