I'm in college so I don't live with her, but my mother has leukemia and only has about a year or so to live. For 5 years my mother has allowed her drug addict brother to live in our house. He doesn't have a job. He has gone to rehab and has never, since he was 12, stayed sober for more than 2 months. He is now almost 50. He's a crack/cocaine addict and heroine addict. He has stolen my mothers car (4x) and crashed it and it is still not fixed even though it happened two months ago. Also, while we were on vacation to California, he stole my mothers credit card and number and withdrew money as well as steal and sell her wine and antique radio. When we got home, the house was a mess. We also found out that he was having an affair with our neighbor.
He also has loads of guns in our home (they are registered) and it worries me because I think he will hurt my mother with them (I had a dream he killed her).
She said she would change the locks but I know that he would break in and kill her.
I'm so scared for her. Is there any way we could have him sent to jail or have him locked up? I don't want him to hurt anybody.
Please help me.
My mom has this really awesome old record player that plays 45's on it. I really want one. My mom said that she'll buy me one in October for my sixteenth birthday, but I have to find it. I have absolutely no idea how much they cost, it would be really awsome to find one for less than 0 because my family doesn't have a lot of money. Any style is fine, it just has to be able to play 45's.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!
Ps. I don't know what category this would fall under.
I am not I think very up to date with new technology. It seems as though we are invited to part with money for devices to do all sorts of things I wouldn't find at all useful. I have been making an effort recently for my daughter's sake, to get interested. I would like some type of system where I could save music tracks we especially like and have them played as a shuffle. I have a computer a fairly up to date computer and CD player, and the sort of MP3 player that looks as though ti's fallen out of a cracker that someone gave to us and has stopped working. Battery? who knows.. I know an ipod with nifty little speakers would do this but no-one in our house will be buying one of those anytime soon! ( I do see the point of those, I think they're a beautiful piece of technology) Is there any other way we could do this? Also had a thought about an inexpensive portable recording device to record my daughter playing the piano. It could be useful for recording notes to myself and help me getting down to writing letters too. Any suggestions?
I have a Technics SL-210 and an SL-1600M2K that both need new cartridges. I don't know what I'm doing, and would like either a posted product or a link to someone that can help me out. I plan on using these record players for basic DJ functions such as mixing and beatmatching, but I don't plan to do scratching (yet), and cheaper would be better (extremely tight on cash, I know DJing takes a lot of money but I'm trying to spend money on records). Thanks
I'm moving out of my parents' house for the first time in a few months, but I thought about a potential problem with roaches moving with me! I HATE bugs, and the whole point of moving is to get a fresh start. I'm a college student without a whole lot of money at my disposal (its a miracle even that I'm able to afford moving out!!!). I own an oldschool tv (as in NOT HD/LCD tv) w/ slits for ventilation in the back, a DVD player w/ ventilation on the bottom, a VCR with the front "Tape-cover" thing broken off, a vinyl record player/turntable, an el-cheapo Lexxon subwoofer-home theater system, a 4 channel mixer, and a portable Zoom digital recording studio. Oh yeah, and I just got a printer for my birthday...
What are some tricks or hints or pieces of advice that any of you may have when experiencing similar issues?
For a while now I've been wanting to start an LP collection. So far, I have been able to find several vinyls in excellent condition, however I do not yet have a turntable on which to play them (and yes, I do plan on playing them). Ideally, I would like a turntable which is able to play the records without causing any (or which causes very little) wear to them. However, I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on one. I'd like to spend around 0 on a turntable, but if it would make a big difference I'd be willing to pay up to around 0-250 for a good one.
Any other general advice or information I should know about turntables would be greatly appreciated. I'm very new at this, so I know very little about them. For example: one thing I have noticed is that many seem to come with dust covers. But wouldn't such a cover also obscure the sound being played rather significantly? Or do you only close it when it is not being used? Also, is any sort of amp typically required? Anything else I should know?
Thank you very much for your help
Thanks for the advice, Brandon. Another question, though: Can you typically put any cartridge on the arm of any record player, or do you have to be careful to make sure you get the right kind? Also, there are quite a few different types of Cartridges within those two brands you mentioned. How do I tell which one to get?
Alright, I've done a bit more research and it looks like two good options would be the Audio-Technica AT-PL120 or -PL50. The PL50 is about while the PL120 is 0. From what I can tell, they are both low-end, "starter" turntables, but the PL120 seems to get much better reviews. Is it really worth the extra 0 though? What is most important to me is that I cause as little wear as possible to the records. Would the PL120 be better for this?
Also, I looked into cartridges and managed to find what seems to be a fairly good one for a good price on Amazon - The Shure M97xE, for . Is this worth getting, or is the cartridge that would come with either of the above turntables adequate? Are there any others I should consider? Again, I want to reduce wear to the records as much as I can while staying within my budget.
Finally, is there any other equipment I would need to buy with these? Amplifiers, speakers, etc?
Thanks for any help
I'm gonna make this as short as possible because I know novels are annoying on here.
I have been suspicious of my husband for the past several weeks because he's grooming himself a lot, gone missing often for hours and won't take my calls or text messages, and has been very rude to me for small things. Also, he has come up with several reasons to not be intimate with me. We haven't done anything for over two months.
Yesterday, he wanted me to drive his mom to a town about 45 min from here so she could put flowers or his dad's grave. I knew something was up so I left my mp3 player recording and this is what I got, and I'm wondering what he's doing exactly. There were three conversations over two hours and here are the things I heard him say for sure:
he called a lady named Deb and asked her is she liked his ideas. He mentioned something about 00 being a lot of money, the health and mental wellbeing of 'these girls',
he also said something about head shots and three girls being too prissy and then he laughed.
He mentioned head shots again and then he must have went onto the patio cause I couldn't hear the rest of that call. A little later, I heard him calling massage parlor looking for availability and asked who's working and what kind of build they have. He seemed to know their names.
The last call he was very flirtatious and talked kinda low. I was able to hear him talking about a well-known massage parlor here in Tulsa called 'all about you' and how he liked their lobby, staircase and rooms at the top. He mentioned that he liked places that people have to be buzzed in cause it's safer. One lady he talked to said shed been attacked, per his comment to her.
Please tell me what he's doing?! I don't know what do to & ive been up all night trying to figure this out. Thank you!
my grandpa has this nice record player probably costs good money when he bought it in the 80's but he probably hasnt used it in 15 years I was wondering if it was ou of line to ask him if I could have to play my records on. do you think that would be appropriate? and how would I do it?
Right now, 100% of my income is from online poker. I cash out ,000 ever 2 weeks or so and have a check mailed to me. I play Sit-n-go tournaments almost exclusively. If you don't know what this is, you basically sign up for a small tournament (between 9 and 45 players), and once enough people have signed up to play, it starts.
My question is, what is the best way to track this for my 2008 tax return? I'm sure ideally I would record every single tournament, but by the end of the year I will have thousands of tournament results, but it seems this is rather tedious for both me and the IRS.
Would it be more effective, or legal for me to simply track the cashout checks? Since I'm working with an out of country company, and the money's not really "mine" until I have a check in hand I thought this might be ok.
Also, I never make deposits (and actually never have, but that's another story) if that makes any difference.
I have it on the 33 setting but it's too slow and when I turn it to the 45 then it hardly turns at all. Everything else is ok on it and it plays the records but it sounds funky cause its so slow. Any way to fix this myself without blowing a bunch of money??
Anything helps.
Thanks!
Summary:
Two roommates, one we'll call R and another E. E is my boyfriend's sister and has turned out to be a complete brat. We moved in Sept. 15th and have a one year lease. At this point E has consistently disrespected our belongings and the lease agreement to an extent. She gave her boyfriend of one month, as well as mine/her brother when R and I told her several times we were not comfortable with that. No reason to either since our landlord is on the other side of this twin house and works out of it his home. He comes home with her at 5 and leaves at 8am when they go to work. There were several times inwhich I caught him in our home without anyone there. The first was when I came home from church. I know I locked the door and I came home to find him in the bathroom with his laptop already set up and tv on. He said the door was unlocked, that he just got there, and that E had told him she would be there in a ten-fifteen minutes. That did not match up with the scenario. Not to mention E did not come home for another ten min. Besides, why would he try to get into the house when there are no cars in the driveway, aka no one home. There were other times when I was downstairs and he came to the door and stopped going for the door knob when he saw me. E did not come home for 45 min-an hour. Again he said "E told him she would be home soon." Similar situations have also occurred. He has been at our house even more frequently since E was supposedly "allowed to work from home" though she is never working on her work laptop. Since her 90 probation period (graphic designer with a desk job from 8-5) ended around the same time as this began we are assuming she is currently unemployed and her boyfriend is supplying money for rent. Her dog has also become an issue. The only pet allowed on the lease is R's cat, though there was a verbal agreement that the dog was allowed to be there on the weekends with R's permission. The dog is there everyday. The animal poops/pees everywhere and prevents R from letting her cat out due to the dog's tendency to pee/poop in R's room (which she has to leave open so the cat has access to the litter box.) In the second month E 'assigned' chores. When I refused to do mine (trash), considering I'm an adult who cleans up after herself, she went into my room and put the trash and recyclables next to my bed. Another problem we have encountered is her constant moving/stealing/hiding our personal property. In the beginning she hid my brand new chess set saying it was 'in her way' and she would not return it because i would put it back on the side table. Please note all the furniture in the house is R's. I finally found it after digging through one of the closets. In the past month she has also stolen, and damaged my record player. She first moved it into the closet, without my permission, because she wanted to use that space as bench style seating (it was on top of R's hope chest and a blanket which she allowed me to do.) When I returned home that night it was not there and neither was the key to the shed. I had to go to my landlord and ask him to open the shed where I found not only my record player but a box of dvds. Her excuse was that "her friend had beer on it and didn't want it to get ruined" I, again, returned the record player to the its original spot. The next night I came home to find it gone. When I looked in the closet I found that it literally had been tossed in there. It was slanted and falling off of two vacuums. My box of dvds had also been tossed in there and they had spilled everywhere. That night our landlord go involved. She told him the record player was a hazard because "it was a tripping hazard, and, should her dog jump up there, could easily slide off". Eventually, I decided to move it upstairs due to her constant threats of 'future action'. It was then that I realized it was broken. The phono button had broke off causing the connection to the speakers to fail. R's father was able to fix it (he's an electrical engineer) but the fact remains. Recently she has taken to petty things, that aren't of legal value but demonstrate the living conditions: she constantly curses me out, says completely disrespectful things about myself, my boyfriend, my job and my family. She invites people over only to gossip for hours (3 hrs. today) about me. Her verbal abuse has caused my pre-existing depression to worsen to the point of relapse. Please note my room does not have a door, only a spiral staircase leading up to it so I cannot even escape to my room. Sometimes she even screams up it at me. She fails to do any chores and has left it to the point that two weeks had gone by and we were practically out of everything.
Now today, our landlord promised us he would evict her under the condition we cover her rent. We agreed. He brought her in and told her. In the end we discovered our landlord did not have any real reason for evicting her and was playing 'hardball' without even telling us. M
I hope some day... at the store, the stockers finally remove those cigarettes off the shelves... and replace them with CD's, radio, batteries, and all.
I hope someday, that the smokers are rarely seen.
I hope someday, that the non smoking signs become antiques...
because nobody is smoking anymore.
I hope someday, I can go in hotel and see no cigarette burns on pillow or on counter or mattress....
I hope someday, I can walk on a nice clean sidewalk... no ciggy butts littering.
So.. I'm gonna party party party, dance, and celebrate that everybody is a NONSMOKER(S), YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after losing money, then they won't be able to afford to buy more ciggys.
but they will be losing a lot of money on those cig products.
I have a 1946 Sparton Radio-Phonograph. It doesn't work and it doesn't look very nice lol.
Is it worth anything?
I've refinished items before so I know how, etc. Is it something that would be worth more to refinish? What about putting money into it to make it work?
Any input from someone who knows anything about old radios or antiques would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I have dish network tv. I have my tv and the DVD Player/Recorder and satellite all hooked up. I pushed record to see if it would tape Hannah Montana for my little girl. After the show I stopped it and I finalized it. I took the cd out and put it in my computer. It shows no disc in drive. I used the Maxell DVD -R 4.7 GB and set it up for 3 hours just playing around. It won't play on my computer. I was hoping to record movies and then after I get used to it hook it up with my vcr and put all my VHS movies onto cd. I've heard reviews about cyberhome not being good, but it was new and only cost 53.00 but with no instructions. After I finalized it and it wouldn't play on computer, I put it back into the recorder and it played on it. What do I do. I am a single parent and don't want to pay a lot of money for this. I also was hoping to quickly tape some movies for my classroom off of the science channel.
I appreciate your fast response. It will playback in the recorder so I guess I will try to buy some DVD +r. Thanks.

Communist China is underhandedly trying to destroy the U.S. by devaluing its currency while pegging it to the U.S. dollar. That will bankrupt the U.S.. China has said America should no longer be the number one country in the world, even when they make nearly all of their money from copying U.S. inventions. U.S. invented plasma tv, electronic regular tv, cellphone, DVD and CD's (optical recording),, personal computers, laptop computers, digital audio players(A/D&D/A converters), microwave ovens, digital camera, laser printers, inkjet printers, computer hard drives, electronic video camera, digital video, etc..
I'm thinking about buying a new record player. I don't want to spend a lot of money. Around 100$ or under would be ideal. I might go with the Crosley brand but I've seen some pretty bad reviews. I just want to be able to listen to my old 78's and 45's.
For Christmas, I bought my friend an awesome vintage 70's record player that lights up and says "Dancing Machine" on the front. I absolutely love it. I also bought her two brand new records by her favourite bands.
The thing is, this girl, Emma, is more of a "frien-emy", and a lot of other people in my group of friends say she really doesn't deserve such a good and big gift, especially since she's such a bad friend to me.
One of my other friends said she knows what my gift is from Emma, and that it "sucks" compared to what I got her. She told Emma how I got her an amazing and big present, and apparently Emma said, "Well, I don't care, I'm not getting her anything else, I'm not made of money."
This record player is amazing, and I'd love to keep it. I'll probably never find one like it again. Even my mom says Emma doesn't deserve it and I should keep it for myself, since I love music and have a ton of records.
So, do you think I should I keep the record player for myself and just give the two records to Emma, or give her the amazing record player as well?
Or is it better to just buy the CDs new? Crosley and TEAC make a unit for 0 that will do it without the complicated software but the music quality is no better than a basic record player. For that money I can get a Bose radio with CD and buy a turntable. I'm thinking of doing that actually.
im just getting into the record scene and i have some records and they sound lk crap on my dad's old record player, people always say that vinyl sounds better than cd. im willing to invest some money on a good record player preferably something that i can connect to my hi-fi stereo. i have a budget of 0 for the player.
For a while now, I didn't know that you could still purchase vinyl records of current music. My grandpa gave me this old turntable a few months ago and some of his old records from the '60s and such, and I ended up looking online only to discover that you could purchase some of today's music on vinyl. I got very excited, because I am into retro things and a vinyl collection sounds pretty cool to me.
But can anyone tell me if starting a vinyl collection will be very expensive? My grandpa's player is old as all get out, so I would want to purchase a new turntable and speakers. Best Buy is the only place in town I've found that even sells record players anymore, and the cheapest is a Sony for 9 or so. Do you have to spend a lot of money to get a good one, and will the sound be worse or better than CD quality? Also, how much do contemporary records run? The website I say had them for like or so, is that about average?
Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks. I really want to start this new hobby.
The turntable is fine, but the stereo receiver seems to be broken. It intermittently makes white noise in the speakers and the repair man suggested I clean the entire inside of the receiver and replace the knobs, etc. The receiver is nice, though over 30 years old.
So, my question is, is it worth it to pay 0-0 to repair this old thing or would the money be better invested in purchasing a whole new receiver and hooking my turntable up to that?
Bought a cheapie not long ago, brand name beginning with PH...... Thought it might last long enough till the time came to look at the new laser types and to pay the money for a quality product. What we bought wouldn't even play two discs without wrecking them. Just need something to watch movies on and not looking to record and all, at the moment. Any suggested good brands and further to this, any suggested good brands and or models for a much better system at a later date?
