While cleaning out the basement, I found my mom's old (45+ years) of records, including her beloved Patsy Cline records. She was heartbroken when she couldn't find them (they've been lost for years) and thought that they had been lost in the move (they moved into this house, which we still own today back in 1982), and was upset that they were gone.
She gave up looking for the records years ago, thinking that they were lost. We have an old record player (one of the really old ones with the horn thing at the top) down here, and I wanted to test them to see if they played before I told her (I didn't want to get her hopes up if they didn't work and have her be disappointed). Unfortunately the turntable no longer works. Where can I find one for a decent price? Do any stores sell new ones? If not, where would I be able to find an older one that still works, and how much should I expect to pay for it? I'm planning for this to be her birthday present--when she gets home from work I'm going to have the turntable out on the dining room table that she sees when she walks in, and have one of the records playing when she walks in the door. Then I'll give her the rest of them, wrapped. Where can I find a turntable? NOT online!
Hello, I would like to hear from some people as what their thoughts are on this. Everynight, and I do mean everynight, as I lay down to go to sleep at night, I hear music. When I get up to locate the source, I can find none. I have been having this go on for two months, this time. I have had it happen before around the time my mom passed away. I can hear music and singing, however I cannot make out any words whatsoever. Last night I gave myself a headache trying to concentrate on it. My partner who was in the bed next to me, could not hear a thing. It reminds me of an antique radio as far as sound quality goes. It almost sounds like I am listening to it through a tin can...it has a "tinny" sound. It is starting to drive me nuts as I get up every night trying to locate where the sound could be coming from, but as soon as I start searching, it's gone. Any thoughts on this?? Serious answers only please
I have thought about the brain issue however it's not that. And to Fireball....dont judge me and my lifestyle, you have no clue what I have been thru in my life. Apparently you cannot read well as I stated it starts as soon as I lay down...so unless I dream awake, its not that I'm dreaming. And which god would you have me repent to??? the one that died on the cross for ALL of US not just you. that response had nothing to do with my question so keep your comments to yourself.
Thanks for the serious answers. As far as the mental aspect goes, most schizophrenics dont question the voices they hear. They think it's normal..this was told to me by a doctor. And the fact that I thought I was crazy, pretty much means I'm not as I wouldnt be sane enough to question it. I appreciate the responses. I have looked into heating vents...mine are up high but nothing. I dont know if I mentioned this, but I have had this happen before in a different house around the time my mother passed away. I will continue to look into it.thanks again
Here are a few of mine:
Pretending to be a disc jockey with my Fisher Price record player and a bunch of 45's.
Roller skating in my basement with my hair in long braids.
Swinging on my tire swing and feeling the wind and swooping high and low, while my mom kept calling me in for dinner.
Saturday morning cartoons and a box of Lucky Charms.
I'm 27 and for the last 10 years or so I've been interested in purchasing a record player, I used to mess around with my Dad's growing up but that eventually broke over the years. I have alot of his and my mom's records from the 60's and 70's that I'd love to be able to listen to again, along with some of my own that I'm collecting.
I don't want to spend too much money, maybe 300.00 at the most. I don't have much experience in this audio field so I'm not even sure where to start, I know I had a turntable, a receiver and some speakers back then, not sure if that's still the same setup. Any help would be welcome. Thanks!
So I could not wait for the snow to melt, so I tried using my son's radio controlled helicopter in the living room. I soon realized that it was a mistake when I crashed into the mantle and took out Great Grandma Harriets' family heirloom, a German beer stein from like 1908.
Should I blame the oldest one who is never in trouble, but should really have a lesson in unjust parental discipline. ( he is quite overdue).
Or should I blame the youngest one again, who just recently finished "his" punishment for breaking the mother in laws picture hanging in the den. ( hey, who knew Nerf dart guns could pack so much power )
I mean he is used to it anyway. So I'm thinking of strategically placing one of his toy projectiles up on the mantle as evidence. This should leave no doubt about his guilt.
Of course when she is not around, all punishments will be excused, cause I will be good Dad vs. mean Mom.
And really it is her fault anyway. That guy from Antique Roadshow told her how much it was worth. It should never been out in the open.
So, who should it be??
deevious--- why can't I be both?
I left my ex fiance August of 2008 for reasons of abuse. His father has an old house that is used for storage, which is where my ex and I had a lot of our furniture and other things stored. When I left, I did not have a truck to get my things, and he said my things weren't going anywhere and I could go by and get them at any time. Over the next couple of months I'd gotten all of the clothes and everything I could fit into my car. I would call him to let him kno I'd be there to get the rest as soon as I could find a truck and trailer to use, and he replied by saying it was fine, that he wasn't worried about it. At the end of April, I moved back to mom's and was going to finally get my things (almost 9 months later). All of a sudden, mom gets a phone call from the people who live across the road from where my things are stored. The woman said that my ex was loading all of my things on a trailer and taking them somewhere. By the time I got down there (an hr away) he had dumped most of my things at his uncle's saw mill to bury them. There was nothing I could do. My dressers were torn apart and busted, big shelves that were hand built by my father who had passed away almost 5 years ago when I was 16, my grandmother's antique vanity was chopped up and glass from the mirror was strown all over the place. Everything destroyed. He came back there and told me that my charcoal grill was at his friends house in henderson, and that the 4 ft tall stereo/record player and speakers that my parents bought when i was a baby was in storage in the next town with all of the records that go with it. Me and my mother waited and waited, and he said he couldn't get in touch with the guy to get it and said he'd take it to my mom's. I haven't heard from him since that day. I've called constantly, left messages, and I still don't have that 00 piece of equipment which is more sentimental value than anything, or my grill. Is there anything I can do? Its now been over a year since I left him, and 5 months since he destroyed everything and gave those things away. Oh, and he also took my washer and dryer off for scrap metal. Is there anything I can do? I worry about this night and day, I have got to do something!
For Christmas, I bought my friend an awesome vintage 70's record player that lights up and says "Dancing Machine" on the front. I absolutely love it. I also bought her two brand new records by her favourite bands.
The thing is, this girl, Emma, is more of a "frien-emy", and a lot of other people in my group of friends say she really doesn't deserve such a good and big gift, especially since she's such a bad friend to me.
One of my other friends said she knows what my gift is from Emma, and that it "sucks" compared to what I got her. She told Emma how I got her an amazing and big present, and apparently Emma said, "Well, I don't care, I'm not getting her anything else, I'm not made of money."
This record player is amazing, and I'd love to keep it. I'll probably never find one like it again. Even my mom says Emma doesn't deserve it and I should keep it for myself, since I love music and have a ton of records.
So, do you think I should I keep the record player for myself and just give the two records to Emma, or give her the amazing record player as well?
The tape player in my mom's car has a feature that I've never seen in a home CD player/stereo: a next button. If you press the button, it skips ahead to the next song, just like on a CD.
How does it do this? It seems like it wouldn't work on an analog device like a tape player, particularly with a recorded-from-a-CD tape. Perhaps the coding for a break in the CD was recorded to the tape? If so, what would it do on a tape composed mainly of 20-second or so clips interspersed with bits of songs?
It isn't in mint condition, it's vintage. I got it when I was 4 1991. My mom has kept it put up for me, and I wasn't sure how much I might be able to get for it. I appreciate the help!! Thanks
I'm not cold-hearted, it's a legitimate question. I have respect for the person, it's just I've had it for 19 years, and it's a collectible that would make someone else happy to have.
Ok, so growning up when i was 3-7 my family always said how i was "wise beyond my years" and how i "knew things" or "knew" old song from the 70s with out even hearing them before. As i grew older i went to auditions for disney/nick i couldn't make it to the showcase because it cost 5,000 dollars. But the ady told me that from a scale to 1.0-4.0 i was a 3.9 on my singing...she said most ppl were a 2.5.
this was a boost of confedence. ALL my life i have lsitened to MJ, he is who inspired me to become a singer.
But...for some reason i am sooo atracted to everything from the 1970-1989. including shows, clothes, music

my mom brought me home a smaller old record player that has a built in speaker!she got it from a guy who was moving..........but even when the volume is up all the way it dosent go very loud for some reason, and it dosent play the record properly, it skips through the song a bit sometimes! and are you able to hook larger speakers up to it?...........let me know if u know what that shit is all about.....?.........thanks!!!
I recently told my mother I wanted a record player. Obviously she told me no. I need an extreamly cheap record player, under cheap. I don't care if it's used as long as it still plays well. I want one with a speaker on it so i don't have to buy even more stuff for it, and would perfer it not to be huge. I've checked ebay recently, but will continue to check it. I don't trust Craigslist though. I need a secure site that is well known. If one such site exsists. Does anyone have any ideas on where to go or what site to visit? by the way, I kinda need to trick my mom into getting me one, so if it's a store in another city (i'm near Ann Arbor, Mi) there needs to be some good reason to go there. If you are in the area and have one and are planning to sell it, I may be able to convince my mom to go to the sale and get it for me. No garentee though.
please don't tell me to go on Ebay or Craigslist as I stated in my details that i've gone on there.
my mom won't crack on the ebay idea i need more!
My mom wants a record player for her birthday that plays 45s. What exactly is a 45? and will this record play them
