and it seems that each technology is actually WORSE!!!

examples:

I have 250 CD's. 200 plus have scratches and dont play right..you have to get up and do something about it.

I have 1,000 Vinyl 45 records dating from the 20's to 2007. about 2 of them are not playable. maybe 10 have scratches but continue to play without you getting up and doin something.

ALL OF MY CASSETTES WORK. ALL. A friend of mine brought her 8 tracks and player over...all worked fine.

And at the end of the cassette era they had just put out some players where you could seek, find and go to whatever song you wanted on either side of the cassette in almost the same time that a CD could....sigh..

DVD's?? HAHAHAHAHAH....most players have proeblems..and the disks are easily scratched.

Beta was awesome then VHS came out....never had a problem with any VHS player OR tape...

My records sound better to me and my freinds than CD's......

I do admit the picture quality of a DVD is better....
My question is:

Are we getting screwed?
ok the IPOD does rock...lol...love that lil thing...thanks Tab..

Alright, so... I'm reading about Turntablism and the 2001 movie Scratch on wikipedia. I get what a DJ is and an MC is, one being the person that runs the tracks, the other being the announcer for events...yes i get that. What i don't understand is their comparative existence in rap. For instance, DJ QBert vs MC Hammer. I understand they're just names...but there has to be a more ontological reason for either being a "DJ __" or MC ___. Is one supposed to be analogous (maybe even homologous) to the producer and the other analogous (maybe homologous here as well) to the Singer, or rock star, or whatever you want to call it?

I hope my fusion of geekiness and love of rap wasn't too obvious.

Why isn't there more respect for turntablism and breakdancing?

These two elements were what basically started hip hop in the first place - the isolation of the breakbeat took off the way it did because the b-boy crews loved it.

So why isn't there more love for these things, especially breakdancing?

Can we really talk about innovators in hip hop without mentioning them - why or why not? And at what point did these elements start to be left behind (I know they're still out there and some people love them, but I'm talking in general)?

Okay, my friend and I (who both love Avatar: The last Airbender) are going to a space camp and it will be a long drive and I was thinking since I have a portable DVD player (Polaroid PDM-0714) and no DVD burner. HEY! Why not record Avatar onto a DVD-RW and play it on there! Well, it says Can't read DVD or something like that. Any Ideas? Maybe I need to do DVD-Rs? Even any guesses and Maybe you didn't ......................, are accepted. Anyway. TIA!Thanks In Advance!

I'm 27 and for the last 10 years or so I've been interested in purchasing a record player, I used to mess around with my Dad's growing up but that eventually broke over the years. I have alot of his and my mom's records from the 60's and 70's that I'd love to be able to listen to again, along with some of my own that I'm collecting.

I don't want to spend too much money, maybe 300.00 at the most. I don't have much experience in this audio field so I'm not even sure where to start, I know I had a turntable, a receiver and some speakers back then, not sure if that's still the same setup. Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

DVD Recorder: Cost 6
My VCR is shot, so I need a DVD recorder so I can record my soaps during the day because I don't have time during the day. I work two jobs, so their are many times when I need to record a couple of days at a time, so I can watch them all at once on my day off.

Cell Phone: Cost 0
My current cell phone is shot and only stays charged for 10 min even if its fully charged. I need this so my mom and dad can call me when I go out or I plan to stay longer at work. I use my cell phone alot.

Wireless Keyboard and Laser Mouse: Cost
I need a new keyboard and mouse pretty bad.

Creative Labs 30-60 Gig MP3 Player Cost 0-0
I need something that I can put all my music onto, so I don't have to carry any CD's.

Bears Office Chair: Cost 9
I really need a new computer chair and this is only a seasonal item, so it won't be around forever. I fell in love with this chair.

Female Escort: 0-0
I haven't went in a long time and im going to go nuts.

Okay,
So It's summer and I usually go to the beach throughout the day.
There's this series I watch on TV and I'd love to record it for as to not miss it.

Could you please tell me how to?

I have this record player that looks so old fahioned and I just feel in love with that style. So I took some records that are to scratched to play and hung them on the wall....I also have an old movie poster.
My bed has a headboard that is like a small book case, my mirrior dresser has little shelves...I have pictures on those. Then I just have a tall boy dresser and night stand, a pretty normal furniture set.
so any suggestions? Bed spread...curtains...etc?
Thanks so much!

I've got the RCA plugs in a speaker and the needle is completely fine, but nothing comes through the speaker when the record plays. There's another wire that comes out of the record player that looks like a U or horse shoe that I don't have an input for. Also, there's a knob that can be turned to 17(7), 25(10), 30(12), or manual and I don't know what it does. If one of the aforementioned things is the problem I'd appreciate advice, or if you have a completely different suggestion I'd love to hear all of them. It's a Sony Stereo Turntable Sytem PS-X5 if that helps.

I recently decided that I want to restore an old radio (preferable one with those beautiful Zenith black Dials)
I'd love to learn about where to start, I guess getting one is the first thing, being a college student, I really don't mind having to work hard on the radio if it cost a little less. I think the "Cathedral" style is my favorite. Help me learn where to start- where to get one at what not.

Thanks-

I need to get my record player fixed (a simple welding job, the metal plug separated from the cable that connects it to my receiver). I live in Clinton Hill and ould love it if I could get it fixed nearby. If there's nowhere in CH or Fort Greene, something off the G or C train would be ideal.

Do you still use your old record player? I'm a teenager, but love listening to my dads old records on our oldfashioned record player. My dad literaly has over 1,000 records and all of the good old rock stuff. : )
