My parents have bought a fonograph/CD player/radio combo, and it works fine. I have also found out that we have LPs and 45 RPM records, which are in good condition. But I want to preserve them so they really last a long time. There's a lot of dust that ocassionally (not too often, though) collects on their surface, and that worries me; what if it affects the record's quality? If anyone has some helpful tips on cleaning them without damaging them, please tell me. Also, it would be nice to know a safe place that I can store my 45 RPM records; they don't have any protective sleeves or covers at the time.... Thanks for your help!
Thank you everyone who has given me advice on how to care for vinyl records and the sort. I have learned much about them now... thanks for telling me soon!
Everyone has been helpful in answering this question. There can't exactly be a best answer because there's different tips, all of which are helpful. I'll check out the record-cleaning supplies soon, AslanMusic. Thanks everyone!!
I met these cool people at a bar the other night, and we all totally hit it off. Problem is, I have been under the radar for a long time, and I dont know what to invite them over for. I don't have a tv, just a good stereo and record player and cd player- Maybe I could cook dinner and we could have some drinks and just talk and stuff? Give me ideas. I am 28, they are like 27 or so.
i love female jazz or blues vocalists, from old ella to stacey kent, jane monheit, diana krall, bebel gilberto, i even like popular music vocalist such as kt tunstall, fiona apple, joss stone, pink, michelle branch, etc. as long as the recording is good. i need new CDs!!! i am thinking getting feist (ipod commercial), can you recommend a few artist out side my list? the ones you thin absolute must-have?? I'm only interested in excellent female vocalists and good recording. thanks a bunch!!!
p.s. my setup is fisher tube amp, jensen speakers, all from the '60s, even the cables are vintage. the only modern is the cd player. it is a wonderful setup for vocal music!
Thank you all for the recommendation so far! more please!
I would like to replace my CD player (jukebox) with a comput- erized, indexed list of my CD collection to play through my stereo system. I possess an old laptop that I can use for memory, and I also own a video ipod. My home stereo system includes a Denon receiver. What software, hardware, and what connection methods do I need to use to create a digital server for playback of my own CD collection? How do I set it up? Bonus points if answering person knows how to explain to someone who understandss English but who is not a computer expert!
I would like to record a cassette tape to a cd but I don't know how! All I have is a stereo that has a cd player and one cassette player with recording capabilities in it. Can someone tell me how to do it?
I have a Sony Walkman Model D-EJ01. You can stop the disc, turn unit off, open the player, remove the disc, change batteries, replace the disc and the next time you turn it on it will start from the exact point on the disc where it was when turned off. Sweet! I use it mostly for listening to recorded books so it is very important that it remembers the location when turned off.
Now I need a small portable mini boom box type of CD player with speakers that does the same. Can anyone here help?
The tape player in my mom's car has a feature that I've never seen in a home CD player/stereo: a next button. If you press the button, it skips ahead to the next song, just like on a CD.
How does it do this? It seems like it wouldn't work on an analog device like a tape player, particularly with a recorded-from-a-CD tape. Perhaps the coding for a break in the CD was recorded to the tape? If so, what would it do on a tape composed mainly of 20-second or so clips interspersed with bits of songs?
My fiancee and I are having a wedding ceremony and reception next year. I'm trying to figure out what we should do about music. The ceremony will be short and informal - there will be no walking down the aisle or wedding attendants. Then, we'll follow that with the reception (both the ceremony and reception will be at the same place). We are having a 1950s theme. I was thinking of buying a new vintage-style record player (http://www.crosleyradio.com/prods/cr73-3.html) that comes equipped with a CD player so that we could play our 50's CDs, but keep the look of a 1950's party. We are also considering hiring a DJ - if the prices are reasonable. We are trying to do this as cheaply as possible. My question is, would the record player put out enough sound? We are having a wedding with 100 guests in this room (http://www.hamlinhouserestaurant.com/Weddingpage.html) and no dance floor.
I'm not sure if the record player link worked. This one might be better: http://www.crosleyradio.com/prods/cr73-3.html
Is anyone actually reading this question? I'm not asking for song suggestions!
combination record, cassett tape, CD player preferably a
portable one
I've searched for the methods to solve these problems but can not find anything. I have no idea how to solve any of these problems, if anyone can explain how to solve the problems below your help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much in advance
1) Estimate the length of the spiral carrying pits and lands on an ordinary CD of diameter 12 cm. Assume the adjacent parts of the spiral are 1600 nm apart. Explain your method, listing the assumptions you have made.
2) It takes 4.0 minutes to record a song on a CD at a rate of 44 100 words per second. A word has a length of 32 bits. How many bytes does the song take?
3) Calculate the storage capacity of an 80-minute CD that was recorded at a rate of 44 100 bits per second using two channels of 16-bit words each.
4)a) Explain how digital data is stored on a CD
b) Explain how interference of light can be used to distinguish a pit from a land
c) A CD player uses a laser of wavelength 680 nm. What is an appropriate wavelength?

This website has a picture of the record player that I have. I have had it for a long time and the CD player in it does not work anymore. Does anyone know where I can take it to have it looked at. I live in Chicago. It would be nice to go some were in Chicago to have it looked at. Or does anyone know of a website where I can find the part I would need to fix my CD player in my Crosley record player?
Thanks to anyone that can help me out.
My mp3 has line-in recording available. what port do I plug the line-in recording into on my cd player? I want to load songs on my mp3 player without using a computer.
I got record now, windows media player and realplayer in both of my computers and none of 'em seem to work fine since i burn the CD from mp3 files to radio format to play in a regular CD player and the cd player says no disc (not reading it) so i don't think is something wrong with the disc nor the burner not the radio laser but the software im using to burn.please help...10 point to the right program!

Its a portable record player that plays all size records and stereo also. Has cassette port also and
CD player. That name is all I have on the front of
the player. It was a gift so that is why I have no
other info.
Do I need to adapt my CD player or something in order to play a seven-inch on it?
My DENON DN-2000F MKII dual CD player won't read CDs burnt with an ASUS DRW-1608P3S DVD/CD recorder. Neither it reads discs burnt with a similar LiteOn drive. It does, however, read the ones recorded with my former ASUS CRW-5232AS CD recorder and other "CD-only" drives without problems. It seems that it won't play anything burnt by a laser meant both for DVDs and CDs??? Why? Is there any technical explanation???
Assume that you have the best phonograph player in the world, as well as the best CD player in the world. They are both perfectly balanced, calibrated and all that fancy stuff and they are hooked up to the best stereo in the world. What will sound better, the record player playing a brand new LP, or the same recording on CD?
I just got a Marantz CDR310 CD Recorder today. I followed the instruction for pre-setting the record function to stereo - and the display says "stereo" - but when I burn my CD and play it back on my stereo CD player - it only comes out of one speaker. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?
I checked on ebay and there doesn't seem to be a big selection there, or on amazon. I'd like to find an antique, but a reproduction would be good too for the reliablity. I don't want one with the cd player and tape deck built in, that's kind of tacky and cheap. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, but I checked ebay, i'm asking if anyone knows of a good place besides ebay.
I did the standard internet search, saw that site. I am in the U.S. Thanks for your help though.
I would like to play alot of my old records again, I heard the sound of vinal again and now I want it. What is my best route. Do they still sell them new? Should I buy used? What brand? I dont want to spend alot but I would like to put together a system with a CD player also, something I can add to but for now just a record player. Thanks
At first it sounds like a vinyl record is playing. Then the cd player can't find any track, it may start at any random part of the song but only for a second. It seems like the motor is too tired to spin or the laser doesn't want to move anymore. The cd has a label on it that I printed off my printer. Did the label make the cd too heavy? Any ideas would be appreciated!
I bought a "Retro Record and CD Player". It's new, you can buy them at Toys R Us and online. Well, it's playing all of the Disney read-along stories just fine... but a few records that are in PERFECT condition will not play without the needle digging into the record and creating a horrible scratching noise and creating this dusty particle stuff from the scratching. Why is it that it plays some fine and not others that are in great condition and the right speed and all? What can I do?
Any help?
