searching for new CDs to buy?
i love female jazz or blues vocalists, from old ella to stacey kent, jane monheit, diana krall, bebel gilberto, i even like popular music vocalist such as kt tunstall, fiona apple, joss stone, pink, michelle branch, etc. as long as the recording is good. i need new CDs!!! i am thinking getting feist (ipod commercial), can you recommend a few artist out side my list? the ones you thin absolute must-have?? I'm only interested in excellent female vocalists and good recording. thanks a bunch!!!
p.s. my setup is fisher tube amp, jensen speakers, all from the '60s, even the cables are vintage. the only modern is the cd player. it is a wonderful setup for vocal music!
Thank you all for the recommendation so far! more please!
Queen Latifah just released a jazz/r&b/vocal album named Trav’lin’ Light that sounds very good. Also check out the one she released 2 years ago called The Dana Owens Album. It’s also a jazz cd.
tutu miles davis, charlie parker
try regina spector or cobie callet… really great artists and sound a lot like feist. you have a good taste in music…
Wow, I used to have a Fisher tube amp. Very warm. Those even-order harmonics make for less distortion. Hmmm, lets see. How about Diane Shuur (start with "Collection"). I always thought she was so much better than Diana Krall, who is so over-rated in my opinion. Listen to Christina Aguilera sing "Song For You" on the Herbie Hancock "Possibilities" CD. The entire album is superb with a good mix of artists. Also try to find (via Google) her rendition of "Its a Man’s World" which she sung at the Grammies. I think she’s going to be doing a lot more of this kind of thing in the future and her voice is superb. Marcia Ball is a good female blues singer. For a Brazilian jazz flavor, try Eliane Elias’ "Around the City" which is currently one of my favorites. In addition to her wonderful voice, she is a top-notch jazz pianist.
