Scratching on an old record player?
I was at my friends house and he has a retro record player. Here's a picture: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DTPAyyH6L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
We were playin around slowing the record and such, an allman brothers record, and he bumped my arm and i scratched (not literally) the record like dj's do. is it bad for the record or record player?
Yes it is, but you can make that happen without it damaging the player. DJ’s use a thing called a "slipmat" its a piece of felt that goes between the player and the record. Go to any music store to buy one or cut one out yourself. This means that the recored can be dragged back and forth but the player keeps spinning. If you stop the record without the slipmat it holds the motor (or belt to the motor) and will eventually destroy it. )I destroyed my dads when I was a kid, heh heh.
