RHH: With all the heat hip hop catches for not being music?
As a fan, How proud are you of turntablism (as a concept) for the genre? It's a technique that hip hop can lay claim to without any argument
I've been learning a lot about it for a little while now,
Share some of your favourite turntablism tracks/videos

The problem is that since Turntables arn’t technically Insturments the arguments are gonna keep on coming…
But it is nice to actually say that scratching is solely Hip Hop….It adds something to the table…
I can’t post cause i’m at work….but one of my favorite scratch breaks was in Mark Morrisons Return of the Mack….i think Capri did the breaks on that but till this day i’m still not sure….
Did you hear Wave Twisters 7 Mill from DJ Q*Bert???….
Turtabalism, that’s the original essence of hip hop. Obviously I’m proud of it, it’s one of the main reasons I listen to the music. But critics of the genre won’t recognize it, no matter how complex it is.
There’s no video for it but…
The X-Ecutioners - Premier’s X-Ecution.

RHH3: You probably have already heard it but since it’s one of my favorite’s I thought I would bring up, DJ Melo-D and The Beat Junkies - The World Famous Beat Junkies Vol. 3.
I’m not gonna act like I know anything about scratching. But I find it funny that all the people who say hip hop isn’t music say stuff like "listen to some Beethoven". With all due respect, f*ck Beethoven and all of classical music. I’ve never seen anybody cite Bach or some of those motherf*ckers as influences, and in terms of listening pleasure, their music is beautifully orchestrated, but its so f*cking boring.
Turntablism is an essential component of hip hop and one of the best things about it.
Have you watched the documentary Scratch? Check it out if you haven’t, it’s very imformative.
I’d venture to say that turntablsim must be one of the only (and perhaps the only) new instrument/musical concept in its entirety to be created for quite some time. That’s a beautiful thing.
You can call a great piano player great, but you haven’t been able to call one seminal for hundreds of years - not so for hip hop.
You already posted the Roc Raida one I would have so
Young Einstein (not the greatest quality) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2W_8breYcM&feature=related
Check out more Ugly Duckling for him. They’re one of the few hip hop groups who still place a lot of emphasis on their DJ.

(I have it somewhere if you can’t find it)
i like turntablism and the entire aspect of the DJ in general. the only problem i see is that it is not present today at all. i dont think ive heard legitimate scratching (not that artificial computer generated sh*t) on a track in a while now.
my favorites are The Gaslamp Killer and DJ Abilities. theyre absurdly dope. and i like to watch the DJ competitions at Scribble Jam

Hip Hop is Music people who say otherwise are fvckin retarded
-Real Hip Hop
One of my best friends who constantly badmouths Hip-Hop, actually dosen’t realise how much Hip-Hop has influenced alot of Rock bands he likes. He is a fan of Nu Metal bands such as Linkin’ Park & Lostprophets as well as other bands such as Incubus.
I politely pointed out to him that all of these bands use turntablism as a major part of their bands sound. Therefore without Hip-Hop’s influence his favorite bands would not exist. My friend did then go on to try and dispute Hip-Hops claim to turntablism, something which made me very mad and showed a great deal of ignorance.
I am very proud of turntablism and that Hip-Hop can lay claim to it. It is something I would like to get into, most of my friends play instruments to high levels, something which I do not. I would love to be able to introduce turntablism to their band. I just need to get the cash together to buy some equipment.
I also think it is a shame that turntablism is under used in modern mainstream Hip-Hop production. Give me a Premo scratched bridge over a chorus sung by Akon any day.
