lol Remember u used to have to put one of those plastic pieces in the middle of the record to but it on the player lol, My very first record was BLONDE remeber her lol. I thought I was super cool cuz I even had the Blonde bubble gum record, do you remember those lol
I did, I did. When stereo came out, albums came in hi-fi and in stereo for awhile. We are old!!!!lol
My parents had a HiFi, & it was used a lot for playing records & listening to radio stations. I don’t remember the first record that I ever bought, but, when I was twelve, my mum gave me Glen Campbell’s Gentle On My Mind, Eddie Arnold’s Turn The World Around, & a classical album by the Eugene Ormandy Symphony (or Orchestra), my first grown up records. We probably had 45s, as well.
OMG! Showing our age now. I clearly remember stacking those 45’s and dancing around in front of the mirror, using a hairbrush for my microphone.
The first 45 I purchased was "Red Rubber Ball".
It was my parents Hi-Fi and my first 45 was Eli’s Comin’ from Three Dog Night. Good memories. Thanks for bringing them back.
My oldest sister had all that stuff and probably still does! The music sounded crackly and noisy - not good at all!

Interesting. Yes, I still have a Hi Fi, in fact I have several. They run 10 through 75, and Yes i used to stack my lp’s and 45’s on the drop so that they would run one after another. There was always th problem of putting on too many and then some might not spin or the needle might skip to the center of the record. I think my first 45 was "My Ding A Ling" by Chuck Berry. "We must sing our alma mater. We must sing our alma mater…."
yes I did….the 45’s would drop down on the turntable, one by one…when I was little..I used to listen to "Tammy" was that by Debbie Reynolds??? And remember the McGuire Sisters? Remember the Lennon Sisters? There were so many songs I loved.
I remember listening to my sister’s. She had about 3 Elvis LP’s and several singles. She would put on "Love me Tender" and leave the arm up so it would play over, and over, and over, and over..
I did discover a box of 78’s, from those Bing Crosby doing the "Acheson, Topeka, and Santa Fe" was my favorite. Lots of C&W. Once I was out on my own, my first purchase was Neil Diamond. I also had 5 albums of Oliva Newton John, crush time.
Had a little record player that was in like an overnight case sized container, vinyl covered on the outside with a snapover fastener to hold it closed. I don’t think it had a tone control - just volume - little straight needle that looked like the business end of a straight pin. Later my dad bought a combo black and white TV and HI-Fi console. It sucked too by todays standards. My little brother and I fudged a connection from the Hi-Fi to my guitar amp and that sounded pretty good but the old man was still po’d that we hacked into his wiring. Even my guitar amp at the time only had a volume and a tone knob (early 60’s Gibson amp). First 2 records I bought were mail order off the TV.
