Playing 7″ Vinyl on an automatic record player with two settings: 6″ and 12″?
Okay so a few years back we bought a new record player... which is automatic and plays 6" and 12" records. I just bought a 7" record from one of my favorite artists: Ratatat. Im pretty stoked to get it, the LP is coming out on Vinyl only so it should be pretty exclusive. anyways im worried that my record player will not play the beginning of the song... :-/ im young and not too knowledgeable with record players either but i know how to operate it. it has a Stop, Start, and Cue button (what is cue??). i want to hear the whole record... not just as if it were a 6 inch... HELP...there's a switch that lets me switch to either 6" or 12" and it automatically goes to that spot and drops to start playing.
ahh the days of vinyl, yes it should have two or three settings 45,6,12.
Turntables have a cue lever. By raising the lever, it raises the tone arm into the air. You can then move the tone arm over the beginning of the record. Then lower the cue lever, which will gently set the tone arm down onto the record, and begin playing.
It’s called a Cue because you can also use it to set the arm down at a particular track of an LP record, rather than having to play from the beginning. In other words, you can cue the track you want.
Some brands will sense the size of the record and set the needle down in the right place. If yours does not know how to do a 7 inch record, it will set down on 6 inch. All you have to do is gently pick the arm up and move it back to the beginning of the 7 inch record and set it down softly.
