I'm going with child #1 also. But explain to him how important it is for Daddy not to take the blame when it comes to these fun and games.
Then how Mommy will punish Daddy more severely then the kids and they will never be able to have fun in the house when Mom is away.

those bnerf guns do pack a mean punch.

Now that my kids are grown up, I have found out what really happened when Dad was home alone with them. And since every one of them would say "sorry Mom, it was an accident....I usually blamed the hubby anyway for not paying closer attention. Kids never got too harsh a punishment.
I should have known better.

This is a tough one, I would leave it to chance and see which one she blames then to make her feel guilty for blaming that one of them by telling her that it was the other one... you know you might as well screw with everyone in the house while you are at it... should also make the punishment lighter and it is always good to create misguided feelings of guilt.

Well my hubby would just be like you remember the time you came home really drunk and were dancing around all wild and throwing your clothes everywhere.....yeah that's the time you broke it. And I wouldn't think twice about it. Too bad there isn't a cat, dog or a fish to blame it on. Okay I'm with HB goody two-shoes #1 gets the punishment but just remember who helped you get those free xmas presents at all those stores....don't traumatize the children they need to work later.

Here's what you do, get the vacuum out and vacuum the carpet. Then tell her that you were trying to help her out around the house by vacuuming. When you accidentally bumped into the mantle knocking things off of it.

This way, yes she's upset about you breaking the beer stein, but you get points for trying to help out around the house. Another plus is you might get banned from using the vacuum ever again.

It's worked for me, i tried cooking, made a huge mess and the house smelled for a week. I've been banned from cooking. Tried doing dishes, broke a plate, banned from washing dishes. Tried vacuuming, burned up motor in it "trying" to clean out the sofa, banned from vacuuming. It's to the point now that i'm only allowed to work on things outside the house. Trust me it's worth it.
