Is putting a “breaking the home run record” incentive in a contract a way to make a greedy player greedier?
Not to mention, it could hurt a teams outcome in certain games. Maybe in a tie game, bottom of the 9th, runner on 2nd, but instead of trying to hit a ball into the gap, go for the homer instead? Thats a greed incentive, with less of a team concept in mind. Any thoughts?
I don't think the Yankees have had much issue with unsold tickets. And revenue at the expense of a team, and possible wins? The later into the contract it plays more of a factor is correct though. How fitting, chump change for...
Gene: Do you know how many times I've asked for a raise or how many times I tried to dictate value to my employers? The answer is zero. Ever.
I've accepted raises when they are given. There is a big difference than in that and trying to drive up the value of what one does.
I don’t like incentives based on individual statistics. I think it encourages selfishness. Bonuses for awards like the Cy Young and MVP are OK to me because they are usually awarded based on achieving team goals. Players from bad teams rarely win them.
All that does is bring more turmoil into the clubhouse as that might tend to bring about some sort of animosity from other players due to the fact that he is the highest paid player in the game. It’s kind of ridiculous if you ask me. I honestly don’t understand or know why anybody would need to have a contract that pays them about a little more then a 1/4 of a billion dollars over the length of the contract. And he didn’t just do that once but he did it twice. He’s obviously trying to prove some sort of point although his ego has a huge part to do with it as well and I don’t even want to hear anybody try to defend the guy at all.
get real, when you are making 25 plus million a year for 17 straight years, the incentive money is just chump change.
No, actually the Yankee management is thinking in terms of revenue and filling the stadium.
He’s definatly greedy. I don’t believe, however, that your idea would be a problem. Unless it was really late in the contract.
no because according to baseballs rules it is not contractually allowed,to make an incentive like that…so they have to find another way to word it in the contract for an example they could offer him revanue sharing if he resigns…but they are not allowed to specify that it would only be if he breaks the record
Yeah, A-Rod is greedy. Not like you. You would never accept a raise. Right? It would be greedy. Good god, man. Get over A-Rod. He earns a lot of money. How do you KNOW he’s greedy?
