In hip hop, who do you think deserves the most credit for revolutionizing…?
Lyricism?
Production?
Turntablism?
Which of the three aspects do you think has advanced the farthest since the beginning of hip hop?

Lyricism - Rakim
Production - Tough one. So many producers have brought so many different things to the table. I could see the arguments for everyone the other answerers have mentioned plus a whole host of others - so I’m just going to be biased and go with the Bomb Squad because their sound (imo) remains the most distinctive and one of the most innovative.
Turntabalism - Kool Herc and Grand Wizard Theodore are the obvious choices I guess (along with Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa). More recently, Q-Bert and DJ Shadow.
I actually think in many ways production has advanced the furthest. But I suppose the most obvious advancement has been in lyricism.
Lyricism: Rakim
Production: RZA (kinda popularized chopped/looped vocal samples)
Turntablism: DJ S&S
I would say lyricism has made the biggest leap.
turntablism because no one cares if the lyrics have a good meaning, its all about if it has a great beat.
Lyricism: Rakim, for obvious reasons
Production: Dr. Dre, was the first to really get away from sampling and start making his own beats
Turntablism: don’t know much about this but Kool Herc I guess. I know he was practically the first hip hop dj and came up with the break beat.
hmm, probably lyricism, though I wouldn’t use mainstream artists to make that point. But lyricism as a whole has gotten better. Lyrics at the beginning of hip hop were pretty simple and the subject matter was mainly talking about how great you are.
Lyricism - Rakim
Production - El-P
Turntablism - 9th wonder
Lyricism has advanced the farthest in most respects
Lyricism Rakim
Production Pete Rock
Turntablism QBert
