The stereo system has to have the red and white AUX inputs to play a record player. As far as I know most record players use the AUX red and white jacks. You can get a decent record player for $100. Check online, I got one on Amazon that you can hook up to a computer to copy the records and make CDs or put them on an iPod or MP3 player.
Here this will get you started: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag=mozilla-20&index=blended&link_code=qs&field-keywords=Record%20Player&sourceid=Mozilla-search
