If Alex Rodriguez should hit 62 HRs this year, will most fans see it as the new (unofficial) home run record?
Because it is well known, and widely accepted, that the "players" who recently passed Roger Maris' record of 61 HRs did it by cheating. I personally feel that, although the official record is currently with Barri Bonds (sorry for the spelling, but he's always looked to me like a man who prefers other men - perhaps why he felt the need to artificially bulk up), but the True Home Run Record still belongs to Roger Maris. Don't give me any garbage about needing the hand/eye coordination to even hit the ball in the first place, and that steroids don't help a player do that - steroids help turn all those warning track flyouts into HRs, so steroids do add an unnatural and unfair advantage to those players who feel the need to cheat.
Any baseball fan who believes in the integrity of the game will recognize 62 home runs as the official record. As far as I’m concerned Roger Maris still holds the single season record and Hank Aaron still holds the career mark.
I think many fans will consider it as the unofficial record.
It will be the new AL mark. Barry Bonds, whether you like it or not, has the league season high record at 73. Besides, when McGwire and Sosa was racing each other, everyone was lovin’ it. And they ended up under the microscope. What if Bonds never brok that record and McGwire’s mark held up??? Would there be this much controversy??
I would see it as two records:
- Most HRs in a Single Season by an American Leaguer.; and
- Most HRs in a Single Season by a NY Yankee.
The record for most homeruns in a single season is 72 by Barry Bonds. Some fans don’t like to acknowledge the accomplishment but most fans understand and acknowledge that Bonds holds the record. So to answer your question, if A-Rod hit 62 homeruns this year he would fall 10 homeruns short of the record set by Bonds but would have hit more than any other American league player.
Nah, I don’t think anyone gives a crap about Big Mac, Sosa, & Bonds being juiced or not for the season record anymore. If 62 comes up it will be commented on that Alex did so untainted, but think if will not be considered anything by most. Which is too bad really, but how it is.
Yeah, in my book A-Rod would be the "unofficial" single-season homerun king.
well i would consider it but he still has to hit 10 Homeruns in 17 games very unlikely maybe next year though
People, lets face it no mater how much steroids you take you still have to see the baseball have good hitting mecanichs and most importantly HIT THE BALL. Also Berry and Mark have never been proven to have taken steroids so we cant say they did until it is provin. But to answer the question yes some people will see it as an unofficial record.
I am one of the people who accept Maris as the single season home run champion. Although I still see Ruth as the champ since he did it in only 152 games.
Anyway, I will see A-Rod as the new Single Season Champ if he can get 62.
It would be the definitive American League record.
A record is a record. Barry Bonds has hit the most home runs….PERIOD. I was a huge Roger Maris fan, but Maguire beat him out. If Bonds, Maguire, Sosa, etc. are actually found guilty, that’s another story but, for now, the records stand, like it or not. Spitballs were illegal, so should we disregard Gaylord Perry’s records??? Regarding Aaron, however, I never did recognize him as the home run champ since he did it in 4000 more at bats than Ruth.
i would see it as the unoffical record becasue A-rod got his homers the right way. i respect players that do that.
Sure, I’ll accept it as the new legit record. But I’m pretty sure Yankee fans won’t really give damn about it if he don’t produce in October.
I know I certainly would jump and say Finally after 66 years!!! lol.
Few would look on it as an unofficial record, but it will certainly prompt yet another wave of discussion over the steroid/HGH problems and why MLB hasn’t taken stronger steps to stop it.
Interesting, I have accepted the new records, tainted or not.
I am a yankees fan but I have to say it still won’t go into the books that way. Unofficialy, maybe, we still don’t know if he is actually clean or not.
Bond’s total will be the unofficial record.
No he is on HGH
