I want to setup an old cassette tape player and a vinyl record player?
The thing is on the rear side of the Cassette Deck (Akai CS-34D) says '120V 60Hz 10W' and on the amplifier I'm going to use (where I have to plug the two things) there are two available spots. One says 'Switched 100W max' and on the other one it says 'Unswitched 150W max'. The Vinyl record player doesn't say anything.
Please help me and tell me which thing I put in each spot?
The cassette deck you mention is a vintage model and you may have to be inventive with how you link these things up…
120V 60Hz is the power requirement and has nothing to do with audio output or input, so you can rest east on that one…
You will need to plug your record player into a specific record player input on your amp - get that connection first, then work out if you can get the RCA tape out connections on your amp to connect to the cassette. Something from this era of audio will probably have a 5pin/6pin DIN socket (I can't remember if it's 5 or 6, maybe even more..) interface for record and playback. It looks like it might have 1/4" jacks too for mic input…
I would try one of the following:
1) Use conventional RCA stereo leads with RCD to 1/4" jack converters and slide the volume up very slowly so you don't overload the tape deck input.
2) Get a DIN plug to fit the socket and find out what the conventional wiring is, chop the ends off an RCA stereo cable and wire it straight through… it'll work, I have done this….
Just so you know the DIN interface is a round connector probably less than an inch in diameter with multiple pin-sockets.
