Often the crystal is placed on the computer, keyboard, or near the desk, around or on-top of electronics etc. The crystal can be lose, raw preferred, or "pyramid" shaped. I have posted some Images of crystals on my site listed below. Now for the device your speaking about above.. is not necessary, But has some value. Only attempt this if your very creative.
