YES get him one he will absolutley love it!
i love mine!

id suggest getting him a nice one and get him record cleaner and maybe even a little brush that removes static (definetley get record cleaning solution)

the nicer the player the better the sound

also, get him one that will plug into your stereo system, and you may want to consider getting him a player that will convert the music on the record into songs you can play on your computer by using a little cord and some software

but it is ridiculously hard to work that software (at least it is for me)
so make sure you know all about how to do it first.
