It depends on capabilities of your DVD player.
Most DVD players also accept VCD format, so you can
create a VCD if your software can do it.
I use Roxio MyDVD from Sonic that supports creating VCD
 http://www.sonic.com/
If your DVD player accepts other formats, you can use the
data CD with .mov files or you can covert the movie into
the format accepted by your player like .mpg.
Check user manual for your DVD player. For example,
APEX DVD players you can get in Walmart are
cheap and support most video formats.

Hope this helps.

You will need to convert the mpeg to DVD format in order to watch it on a DVD player. It will reencode the video a map it with a menu that the DVD player can read. Nerovision Express has a free download. It works pretty good.

you still need to convert the movie maker file...
instead of just burning the file to disk, look for a button/ command that says something like...
convert to vcd or something like that...
