Do you think that Barry Bonds breaking the home run record will be a big blow to white supremacy and racism?
Will the haters be so angry at the greatest baseball player of all time that they will want to start a race war? That's my biggest fear. I mean white people hate Barry so much that they might go crazy and start looting.
The greatest home run hitter of all time is Hank Aaron, who happens to be African-American. It might have been a concern in the 70’s when he broke Babe Ruth’s record, and he did indeed recieve death threats, but not today.
I think some people cant stand that fact that not only one but TWO black men broke Ruth’s record. Hank’s overall career stats still stay shy of Ruth’s, but Bonds has better overall career stats (OBS, OBP, etc.) than Ruth, so by setting a new record, Bonds will remove any doubt in a discussion of who is better.
I think people hate him for the steroids. Not his race. Perhaps you’re the one you has the racism problem.

I don’t think so. In fact I think Bonds breaking the record will give them more firepower. He may break the record but he did so most likely with the help of steriods. White supremacists will be able to say, look this black guy is like all black people, he needs to cheat to get ahead. He likes to do drugs. Things like that.

The current home run king IS a black man named Hank Aaron and no one has a problem with that. It seems that you’re just looking for an excuse to play the race card.
I think the only problem "all races" have with Bonds is that he keeps to his lie about not taking steroids and for that I disrespect him.
I felt the same way about McGwire breaking Ruth’s record. I was a loyal fan of McGwire throughout his career and dropped him when he “plumped” up and disrespected him when he shattered a sacred record.
I’m a bit afraid of what these haters will do too. I have no problem with any race or color in baseball. As long as they don’t cheat, they’re fine with me. I’m not so big on Bonds though, because of this steroid controversy. He’s not quite the greatest baseball player of all time, but the greatest hitter of all time was a black man, Hank Aaron. He’s looked at as one of the most in figures in baseball today.Bonds used steroids, that’s why people don’t like him. I don’t think it’s because of his race. Anyways, whats the worse these haters can do? They can stop watching baseball in protest, but there will still be PLENTY more other viewers. Having haters out of baseball might actually be kind of better. There won’t be as much speculation and controversy.

Yea. Hank Aaron definately received threats of sorts when he broke Ruth’s HR record. And that was a time when segregation and racism was still a predominant force to be reckoned with at that time and era. ‘White supremacy’??? Nowadays I believe that such a term is ignorantly used. There isn’t such a thing as one group of people being dominant over the other because of the pro-diversity of our nation and of the baseball culture. Think about all the hispanics, african-americans, and the up-and-coming asian minority groups that aren’t so ‘minor’ anymore in ANY scene.
So…to answer your question. If it is a ‘race war’ between colored and non-colored people, then in realism, ignorance shows how high-headed and arrogant those people are. They can’t accept the fact that Barry is an icon in the making. And we should be privileged to see such a historic event that may never be relived in our lifetime.

People don’t hate Barry Bonds for being black. They hate him because the court of public opinion has convicted him of cheating by using steroids. And their ire over steroids isn’t just aimed at blacks. McGwire and Giambi (whites), as well as Palmeiro and Sosa (hispanics) are also under fire over it.

Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron’s record is not a blow against anything but fair play and decency. People don’t hate Bonds because he’s black, they hate him because he’s a jerk. They hate him because he was the best player in the game at the point where he decided it wasn’t enough and started to cheat. They hate him for mistreating people, lying, and evading taxes. They hate him for making great baseball players like Willie Mays and Willie McCovey look like fools for defending him.
If the image of Barry Bonds is one that blacks want to rally behind, and want their race defined by and associated with, that’s their choice. I’d personally choose Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, or Willie Mays to be my standard bearer.
ok. first of all the current home run record is held by Henry Aaron who is an African American. 2nd of all in my opinion (and i am a 14 year old African American) Barry Bonds is not as u call him "the greatest player of all time" i think he is a cheater and a total disgrace to baseball and is setting the worst example for all young athelets. i also think it will be a "big blow" to major league baseball - fans of all races: white, black African American, Hispanics, Asian American ect. oh and just so u know u said "white people hate barry bonds so much" not all white people hate barry bonds take the giants fans for example they think he is the greatest thing on the face of the earth, and some of them i am sure are white. most white people (and people of all races who hate barry bonds like me ) hate him because he is a cheater.
