Do you remember wearing multiple net petticoats, the more different color, the better?
Bobby socks, black suede penny loafers or Ivy League black & white oxfords? Sock hops, duck tail haircuts or ponytails, starched collars worn up to look cool, tiny little plastic colored clothespin worn on the collars? And Rock & roll music on a 45 RPM record played on a small record player? (sigh, the good times todays teens missed out on.) What memory stands out in your mind?
Ivy League oxford had the buckle on the back of the heel. If you wore the buckle open it meant you weren't going steady with anyone.
Yes I remember all of that.
I had forgotten about the little clothes pins, I also wore straight skirts, so tight they had to be hiked up to get on the school bus..bobby sox rolled to just above the saddle shoe..also solid color small scarves folded into a triangle and tied around my neck..the tails usually pined to my sweater with a cute pin..good memories, thanks.
Oh this does bring back so many goooooood memories. Those were the good days But don’t forget the white bucks. Oh they were my favorite.Even though being white made your feet look larger——I still loved them. I’ve always had skinny legs but I didn’t care—–I still wore my white bucks..
I was wearing those petticoats just a few years ago at the Linedancing.
Missed good times? We had Rodney King, Racial Tension, Crack Cocaine, and Megan’s Law….what teen wouldn’t like that
Yes, we wore crinolin petty coats of colorcul nets to keep the skirt fuller and we also wore saddle oxfords. Later it was penny loafers and we’d sometimes rip them up with a razor. And we had sock hops on the weekends…lots of fun. Those were the days, my friend…..Bobbye
When I was in college, pleated skirts, cable knit sweaters, knee socks, peter pan collars, scarab bracelets were popular, and hair ties made of
fat yarn. That was in the early 1960s. In 8th grade, I remember the petticoats, the more the merrier. In high school, though, we wore uniforms, so no poodle skirts, except on weekends.
I didn’t think anyone but me remembered the tiny clothes pins! I love your Q and I remember a lot of that stuff and was involved. Thanks!
We also wore circle pins and Peter Pan collars and pleated skirts with the pleats sewn down and knee socks (the circulation won’t stand for those now). And lots of plaid!
No, but I used to work with a fella thad did.
I remember all those things but I was a bit young to participate in them.
Oh yes. Weren’t those fun days? I had a poodle shirt I was so proud of. When I was fourteen me mother made a net petticoat, six layers. She gave it to me for Christmas. I was thrilled. My skirts stood out so far I had to crunch it all down to sit at my school desk. How about neck scarves? We wore them so many different ways.
I had several crinolines but my favourite was bright red, I remember my mom didn’t want me to get it but I said no one will see it anyway!.
I used to love going to Woolworths to buy pretty pleated coloured scarves for my ponytail. I also liked the artificial rose bud strips in various colours to wrap around my hair. Every counter had a salesclerk behind it to serve you. I miss that. There was a period in the fifties when everyone wore a kerchief , mostly white and then a few years later they came out with flowers on them. I remember the straight cut skirts with pretty machine embroidery on them in bright colours and in the winter we wore tweed skirts and coats. We couldn’t wear slacks to school but I would wear them under my skirt in the winter and put them in my locker.
I was little but remember my sister and aunt wearing what they called "can cans". My sister had the poodle skirts and wore the penny loafers and the bobby socks. I had the oxfords but we called them saddle shoes. She wore a ponytail and I remember her boyfriends having the duck tail haircuts. Ugh. I had the 45’s for sure and had a lot of them. And I had a record player that was pretty big that Mom got with her S&H Green stamps. I remember all that stuff. I later worked at a grocery store and we gave out a ton of those stamps and some people didn’t want them and I took them home. We got a lot of them! I guess that is what I remember most because I got some pretty good gifts from those stamps.
