All Record Players Archives

I have recently acquired an old portable record player and when i spin the table at 33 1/3, I hear a slight rattle sound coming from the table.

What could be causing this?

A scene in my new home invasion movie involves a record player. One of the parents puts an old time song, that is sort of creepy, country sounding. Which of these is the best selection? I will ask the singer!

"Bless this house" is one of the lines, so I think it might fit.

I am not I think very up to date with new technology. It seems as though we are invited to part with money for devices to do all sorts of things I wouldn't find at all useful. I have been making an effort recently for my daughter's sake, to get interested. I would like some type of system where I could save music tracks we especially like and have them played as a shuffle. I have a computer a fairly up to date computer and CD player, and the sort of MP3 player that looks as though ti's fallen out of a cracker that someone gave to us and has stopped working. Battery? who knows.. I know an ipod with nifty little speakers would do this but no-one in our house will be buying one of those anytime soon! ( I do see the point of those, I think they're a beautiful piece of technology) Is there any other way we could do this? Also had a thought about an inexpensive portable recording device to record my daughter playing the piano. It could be useful for recording notes to myself and help me getting down to writing letters too. Any suggestions?

I am 26, my parents are older than most parents because I am adopted.

My dad is retired. Pretty much all he does all day is play solitare on the computer & watch westerns.

On Saturdays he goes to a antique radio club, & sometime he goes to dinner with a male ex-work friend.

I know it isn't my business, but I am concerned about him. He has been like this since his triple bypass.

I have a home stereo with a record player. When I play records the music sounds slow. Can this be fixed? and how?

I need to connect my camcorder to a small portable device (maybe a tv, video game or media player); I want to see what's the camera recording while it's not in my hands. This is for an on-board camera.

Hi, I am looking for a supplier of this item or a similar item, this link is on ebay and its far to expensive.. but it shows the idea of what I am after, its a Hard disk external enclosure for ide drive or maybe even a sata srive would also do me.. It can record from an input video..

Any ideas where I can get a similar item cheaper?

I'm looking for a whole new set up, except for the record player, for under 0. I have looked at Onkyo's Home Theater systems (sr600 and sr800) but I have yet to hear of the quality of sound for playing vinyl. Home theater systems may be easier but I am not opposed to a separate receiver and speakers.

I listen to mostly records but I also frequently listen to my iPod and sometimes CD's and movies. Also if it is of any help, I listen to mostly folk and indie rock.

Any suggestions??

I have a Emerson Model 635 AM Radio/Phonograph combo player in great cosmetic and working condition. Are these worth anything? if so how much? ( estimate )

my daughter has many vhs tapes she recorded and wants to make them into dvd'd that she can play on her portable player.
she also has pre-recorded vhs tapes that she wants to copy onto dvd's

looking to not go bankrupt purchasing a recorder, but want to make sure that i have the correct unit
thanxs so much in advance

Hi everyone,

I am using this post in several places around the internet to get as much advice as I can about how to go about setting up my home studio.

I’ll try and be brief, but I’m afraid that lots of questions need to be asked, and while it would be nice to get information about everything from one person or source, I don’t think thats going to happen.

These are pieces of kit I have decided upon... I already have Guitars/Bass’s and amps... So thats not an issue.

I want to get a Vdrum drum kit (for noise resons) probably the new td9.

I will be using Pro Tools, via PC, with Reason 4/5.

Heres what I need help with.

Firstly I’m looking at options for interface between all instruments and Pro Tools...
Options:

A studio in a box (such as the korg D16xd – or current equivalent d3200??) to record all instruments (including Vdrums) and connect to PC via usb to load files into Pro Tools. Then from there, rewiring Reason for all other parts.

The Pro Tools M box solution.. As I understand, this gives you an interface that allows you to record straight to hard drive on PC into Pro Tools. (Some more info on this would be cool if theres anyone out there using such a system.. Even the website doesn’t seem to fill in some of the blank areas for me.) Do I need any other equipment, will all the things I have already DI straight into these, can I plug mics in and record that way... Its all a bit grey :P

I also need a midi keyboard... Now I’m not a keyboard player, but I can get by for home recording. So I don’t need something amazing, but I do need something that works perfectly with Reason, as this will be the rest of my band (strings, effects, Synths, etc) Do I need full size? Or would a shorter keyboard be enough. General advice in this area would be appreciated.

Thanks all for this initial help, I’ll come back with more as and when you good folks start talking to me..

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

I have an antique wood radio. Philco model 39-25. It is not in the best shape, the fabric on the front is torn a little and the push buttons are beat up. It is not bad considering it was made in the 30's. Can anyone tell me if it is worth anything? I'm not trying to get rich off of it but want to know if I am looking at a or 0 or more.

I have gone through the process of digitizing my music to my computer. I didn't know any better, and I recorded everything as wma files. Everything works well on my computer, but if I buy and use a portable player, have I screwed myself by not recording as MP3s? Is there a way to convert all these albums on my computer? Do I need to "re-record" everything? Please let me know what I'm up against.
Thanks.

For years I've had an odd feeling in my home, like someones watching me. It's especially centered in my bedroom. The activity has always been random and low. My room has 3 attic doors in it- in both closets and right outside my bedroom door on the ceiling and they would unlatch themselves, water in my rooms bathroom would turn on by itself.

However over the past couple month the activity has gotten scary. My TV/Radio turn on by itself, I lose things all the time and find them in places like the basement (i never go down there except to do the laundry and i wouldn't bring something like my phone/makeup/water bottle/etc down there.) - i will wake up in the middle of the night by someone calling my name. my boyfriend refuses to come to my home after he saw someone standing in my window from outside, when we went in ... no one was even home.

my parents collect a lot of antiques, and our home was build in 1905 .. so i feel theres a good possibility something, or someone is staying behind. im just worried about the escalation in activity ..

any advice?

i recorded it on a Sony DVD disk

My kids have video cameras. One is a Vidster, one is a VideoNow brand camera. Neither take very high quality pictures, but my kids like them. I also have a Dazzle video converter to put my own Hi-8 videos onto my PCs for editing. Yay! What fun! Down load it to YouTube! All of these products and their software (for editing etc.) make .avi videos. That is just fine.

The problem is this: My kids want to make DVDs that will work in their grandparents, and cousins and friends standard (cheap) DVD players. I thought I could solve the problem with my Panasonic DVD recorder. I ran the .avi signal though the Panasonic and it recorded a DVD for me. Lovely. Problem: The DVD made doesn’t work on any other deck than the one it was recorded on, not the in-car DVD players, the portable DVD player, the . cheapie in my daughter’s room, not my parents or my in-laws.

I don’t want to buy any more electronics. All I want is a (cheap or free) app that will convert .avi to a universal DVD format.

Are there any antique stores in the Tampa Bay area that sell any old radios? Also, any stores that sell old electronics in general (Radios, Record Players, etc...)

Thanks!

First of, I am an 80s kid and was born in the early 80s. When it comes to making my very own home audio-recordings, I ALWAYS depend very heavily on audio-cassettes and have lived my life by them when it comes to recording all kinds of home-uses (e.g. audio-letter to a faraway friend. Audio-diary for the future. Making my very own audio-book or even doing secret recordings).

But, for me, this begs a very good and mysterious question. The music record player was replaced by the music audio-tape player. The music audio-tape player was replaced by the music CD player. The music CD player has not been replaced, but has been accompanied by other musical devices, such as the MP3 player.

For recording purposes, the Video recorder has been replaced by the DVD burner. BUT..........when it comes to making AUDIO-home recordings.....DID ANYTHING ever replace the audio-tape recorder? Was any other intention created to make home audio-recordings in place of audio-cassettes?

If such an invention was ever created, then PLEASE....someone tell me all about it. I'm really, REALLY interested to know. What IS this new, up to date, home-recording device for audio called and how do you use it? If I wanted to sit down at a table with an audio-recording device in front of me so that I could read a book onto tape or something, what would I use in place of the tape recorder?

When it comes to making home audio-recordings, I will ALWAYS love and stay very loyal to the good, old-fashioned, traditional tape and tape recorder, as they are still very plentiful over here in Scotland, UK, alongside our many DIGITAL electronics.

My Sony tape recorder is my best friend, LOL! (^_^)

Additional question....does anyone else still love their cute little audio-tapes and tape players/recorders? I LOVE RAVAGE THE TAPE FROM TRANSFORMERS TOO, LOL!

I hook the portable cassette player to the pc and recorded it to a audio editor that I have and played it back, the sound don't sound good like if listing to music on a portable player, I figure that hooking it through the dvd player, tv or a speaker system to make the sound better,
for example ( if you listing to music on a portable cassette or cd player, the sound sucks but playing it on a stereo it sound good<

I'm looking for a home audio amplifier that I can use for my record player and dvd player.

Whats the best out there for under 0.
No speakers are needed

I've found my old Sansa m240 1GB mp3 player that
I've had for about a year and I am trying to remove the songs that were on it and transfer them to my Playstation Portable (PSP). I first turned it on and listened to a couple songs to make sure it worked properly (which it did). Then I connected it to a usb port in the front of my computer and I tryed to search it for the songs I was just listening to. All that was displayed was AUDIBLE, CONFIG, RECORD, SYS_CONF.DNC, WMPInfo, and CONFIG.TCC. Since the search didn't show the results i was looking for, I decided to search it manually, but I could only find the same files and folders that were in the search. I then unpluged the mp3 player to see if the songs were still there and played properly (which they were and did) because before my computer automatically formated my mp3 player. I tryed to find the songs through Windows media player since thats how I originally put them on, there were no songs but half the memory was filled.

I bought an old record player. It had a very bad home paint job, so I painted over it. It looks good, except for the fact that the paint it so matte that it looks chalky. What can I put on it to make it shiny?
