Can I Fix My Record Player?
When I changed my stereo form CD to Phono to use my record player a loud D-------- noise came up. I tired playing a record but it's very quiet as this noise is so loud over it, I then tried turning it up but this noise gets louder with it.
This happened many years ago so I stopped using my record player. Then I tired again a few months ago it was 'fixed' somehow, now it's back,
Is it repairable?
Thanks
If the sound is like a hum or a hiss, then (I suspect) it is a case of the turntable needing to be grounded to the Premp/amplifier. Some other sort of noise could very well be a problem within the circuits of the "stereo" unit itself.
i’m wondering about the knob that makes the switches. is it loose? does it come off easily? try pressing on it little, like a pill bottle and then switch knob while still pressing. my table’s knob does that .
then i would check speaker wires and speakers if they aren’t attached to the table. maybe a speaker blew out. otherwise i suggest you look for a local person who repairs turntables and speakers, etc.
i wish you luck.
There’s something about this that sounds familiar to me - having the same problem. I think my problem was I had the stereo set to the wrong setting, but you changed yours. I would first double check that you don’t have any other setting on as well. Now that I’m thinking about it, my issue may have been that I did have it on phono, but also had it on a setting for recording so something like phono and tape were both activated. Really, if you can’t find the problem, I’d see if you can find someone who will take a look at it for a free estimate. It could just be time for a new player. Get a stand alone that can be hooked up to other components. Stand alone equipment is often better quality than the all-in-ones anyway.
