I have been looking for the exact same record player, Statham uses throughout the film, when in his home. It is the sleek, elegant white record player, which in the end is a explosive trap to Ben Foster.

I have just purchased a used record player, along with a few new vinyls. When I plugged it into my amp and began to play the record, after a few minutes, the sound became very scratchy and unclear. I have made sure all the plugs are plugged FULLY in, I just purchased a new cartridge and the sounds is still scratchy. I have played music on the amp and speakers from my computer, and it sounds fine.
My family's moving, and so I get to re-decorate my new bedroom however I please! I'm looking for a sort of indie/vintage feel to it (I'm buying a record player, for example). Anything from wall coloring ideas to cool projects to unique accessories is appreciated. Also, if you have any specific links, those would help a lot. Thanks everyone.
Something's definitely been up with my record player lately, and I'm in no position to say whats wrong since this is the first one I've owned and have only had it for 10 months or so.
I noticed when I played a new record I got last week(BRAND new, not just new to me) souned a little funny kind of scratchy and trebble-ey but I figured that maybe it was just the record itself...but I've had a problem with three brand new records in the recent past. One I got in January skips in a loop at the end of the last song, which doesn't bug me much since I can just lift the needle and I'm not really missing any of the record....the one I got last week had the trebble-like quality and skipped too, just not in a loop. Today I just got my Doncamatic/Empire ants 45 and I can't listen to the empire ants side at all because it starts a loop skip 20 seconds into the song and the doncamatic side has the same trebble stuff going on and skips near the end.
The record/tape player I have came from my grandma, the only brand it shows on it is sears.
Do I need a new needle or a new player? Also are my new LPs going to be fucked over now? If I do get a new needle or player would it still skip because of the "bad" play on this one?
Yeah, the player has a lever..what's how I would take the needle off when it would skip on loop (it was definitely down).
Theres no adjustment for the weight of the needle, but I had never thought of that...so I put a penny on top of the end of the needle arm and it fixed the skipping perfectly.
It still has an annoying trebble-quality so I think I need to invest in a new needle anyways since it hasn't been changed in who knows how long(I havn't changed it since I got it and I don't know when my grandma ever changed it)
Thank you so much for the help, I never would have remembered the penny trick if you didn't mention weight.
I have a 1939 Silvertone radio and phonograph in working condition. Has just a few signs of wear. Does anyone know the approximate value of this? Or can you tell me where to get that info? I live in an area where there really aren't any antique appraisers.
Please let us not forget that there is a big difference between being paranoid and being aware. Except for a friend I sometimes have lunch with I’ve kept this story a secret from most of my friends up until now. Back around October 2003 while I was installing a new graphics card into my computer (that I built) I was shocked to find a strange card that wasn’t mine somehow installed on the motherboard (earlier minor details left out - I’m keeping this short). “How the *@# did that get in there?!”, I asked myself. You see these are the facts, I live by myself and there’s no possible way that it came into my home and became installed unless someone else took the time and effort to put it there while I wasn’t home!! I wasn’t cheating on anyone, my criminal record consists of a very old D.U.I., a few parking tickets, I like grown women, I have no foreign ties and I don’t go about promoting political causes or causing unwanted commotion. Anyway, I pulled the card out and threw it in the trash while saying to myself, “who would be foolish enough to plant a bug in my boring home?” Also when I first discovered the card it had occurred to me that I would need a plan of action, because whom ever placed it there would probably try again and I wanted to know who was behind this invasion of my privacy. Sure enough sometime later I was going through my bookcase and “WOW!”, sitting out of sight on the bottom shelf I found a brand new portable compact disk player with all the frills! It didn’t belong to me or any of my friends or neighbors! So, I decided not to throw it out and see what would happen if I kept it over a long peroid of time (the rest of which you’ll have to imagine yourself). I pose this question for all you great thinkers and brainers out there – WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE IN THIS SITUATION?
I'm looking for this sound effect where every sound suddenly stops, it's use in comedies and trailers a lot, when someone says something funny, there's this sudden stop sound to emphasize the joke. I think it done using a record player, what is the name of this sound effect? thanks
I've got a Sony Blu-Ray Disc/DVD Player BDP-BX37... So if I have a show recorded on my DVR, can I somehow use my Blu-Ray Player to record it onto a blank disc? If so, please be specific as to how; I'm not really tech - savvy. If I can't, can you think of any other way to do this? Thanks!
I have a 1957 Packard-Bell radio, model 5R1. (It's a table-top type radio that has vacuum tubes.)
When I turn it on, my radio does receive the signals from the radio stations, but it hums so loudly that I can barely hear the sound from the radio stations.
I know that when you have a vacuum tube radio, you may hear some hum from the tubes, but not so much that the hum of the tubes practically drowns out the sound, even when the volume is at the max.
Although I do know that the problem ISN'T the speaker, I don't know exactly what the problem is. Does anyone have any ideas?
I'm really dum and I don't even know the basics of recording TV Shows on a VCR, please tell me how it is done. I have a LG Electronics DVD PLAYER/VIDEO CASSETTE RECORDER Model; V782W. I don''t have fancy cable tv or satellite tv or digital tv, just a normal analogue tv signal. I want to record 2, 45 min episodes of dr who, the end of time which is going to be broadcasted on the 14th feb 2010. Plus, if I record 1, 45 min, show on one tape, and I start recording the other on the same tape, is the second episode going to overwrite the first or are they both going to stay on the tape or is the second show not going to be recorded at all or what? Also, if the tape is going to be long enough, can i record the 2, 45 min, episodes plus more tv shows

Hey~
So yesterday I was at an antique shop and came across this radio:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w282/one_mo_time/Backgrounds/IMG_0624.jpg
I have been shopping around for just a new alarm clock in general and I happen to be a huge fan of vintage funky stuff and when I saw this I started gettin' excited.
I had the lady pull it out and I looked it over, it seemed to be in 100% mint condition, no scratches or marks on it at all... that was all good... Then we plugged it in and gave it a minute to warm up, and on popped the radio and clock working at full speed in perfect condition...
Since I figured it at least worked and the alarm went off when we played around with it that I would go ahead and get if and if i didn't like it I'd just give it to a friend or something... Funny, this morning i set 2 alarm clocks and this one went off and the other one (that is newer) never went off lol...
I am wondering if anyone knows the model or year that this came out? I've looked here online and can't seem to find anything similar to it... the only thing I know about is the following:
Its a tube amp
it says Motorola on the front.
not a whole lot to go on, but i figured for I'd probably be okay...
but does anyone remember these or know what year they might have come from?
Thanks
sorry didn't get back, i'm not quite sure how all this works as this is the first time i've ever asked something on here lol...
I haven't yet taken off any back panels because I don't know what i'm doing so i've been waiting for my dad to get home.
I had seen that radio earlier today and it was the only one I could find but being it was at a set buy it now price and is in horrible condition i didn't know exactly what to go off... lol.
The other day I bought a 1948 Admiral TV. The people in the store said it still works, so I got a surge protector, plugged the TV into that, and plugged the surge protector into my outlet. I had the knob on the TV on off. I hit the on button on the surge protector, and there was a flash from my TV and then the power in that outlet and my living room stopped working. I began sniffing the air for a burning smell, it took a few minutes till I smelled a faint smell, but then it went away. I sniffed the outlet, the plug, the surge protector, and TV, but none of that was the source of the smell. I unplugged it all and tested the surge protector elsewhere and it worked fine. I had to go in the basement and flip the power off and on and the power started working in the outlet and the living room again. This happened before when I plugged in my New Record Player (Not antique, It also has a tape player, cd player, and radio.) and a lamp and the power went out on the outlet and living room. My mom is too afraid for me to try to plug in the TV else where again unless I get proof that it is the outlet and not the TV's doing.
It turns out it was ripped where the cord came out of the TV and now there is a scorch mark on my wall, thank you everyone for your answers. The cord was just torn and had the wires showing and it was touching the back of my wall. I was basically ripped off when they said it still worked. Now I gotta figure out how to get a new cord thing.
I connected a portable tape player to my computer using the headphone out on the tape player and both the line in and microphone jack on my computer. I tried turning the volume up and down on the tape player and computer. All I get is a very quiet humming sound from the computer speakers. I can hear the tape with headphones, but not through the computer. I can play cds on the computer and they work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I have a Sony Stereo Turntable System PS-X20 and wanted to start using it. It is missing the needle used to play the records. I was wondering what needle it requires and where can I get one!?
my grandma gave me her mothers old record player and a ton of 45's and 72 records they spent a long time in her garage does anyone know the best way to clean them??
I have this great old record player in my basement. It hasn't been used in years however and now every time I go to use it, regardless of the artist, it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks got drunk and got behind a microphone.
I would really like to be able to play some of the great albums we have laying around the house so if someone could explain the cause of this horrible sound and how I can fix it that would be great! Thanks!
I really think it is a problem with the CD player in my stereo system because it does not seem to work properly all the time.
The burned disk WILL play in my computer and in my car CD player, but not the home stereo CD player.
MY QUESTION IS : Is there a certain format i should use during recording ?
I down loaded audio tracks from YouTube music vids using both [ listen to youtube.com ] and [ Tune nabber ] . They down loaded in MP3 format and on the [ listen to you tube ] site ,i chose " Audio CD format " . I used CD-R blank CD`s.
Is there a different format than MP3 that should be used . Or do think it is just the sketchy CD player on my stereo ? It just does not seem to recognize the cd at all, makes no sound, nothing.
Am I doing it wrong? It's hooked up to the line-in slot through a phono adaptor thing. I'm using Audacity to record it but it only comes through the left speaker.
I have recently developed a very deep interest in collecting and listening to records from way back when. I know very little of which of the players are of high quality and build, and I really want one I might look classic (wooden case, etc), as wooden furniture just has that classy look. If not, I'm more than willing to just go with a simple one and find my own way to install it into a table compartment or something later on.
Are there any brands in particular I should look for, or models in particular that would be more favorable over another? I was checking out the Crosley line, since they have multiple function units that play CD's, records, and radio, but they're mostly a bit hefty on my budget since I'm just getting started.
Also, are there any websites that sell records for good prices? I'm looking specifically (to begin with) for some Nick Drake records, namely the Bryter Layter one, but Amazon has it for .
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
~TJ
---Side note: are there any spare parts I should purchase too? I don't know really diddly about record players but I would imagine some parts would need to be replaced from time to time.

If Human Evolution is true, then why has mankind gone from writing upon stones to laser printers in just the past 3,500 years?
If mankind had evolved, as evolutionists claim, then why didn't man discover ink a million years ago?
Think about it. This is an astonishing thought--There were NO planes, cars, computers, refrigerators, electricity, lights, gas, powered-equipment, telephones, recording devices, CD players, a million other modern technological inventions--just a mere 170 years ago
If mankind had evolved over millions of years, then men would have discovered these inventions a very long time ago.
So my QUESTION IS: Why did it take so long for humans to create all these things if human did evolved long time ago??
I am looking for something I can use as a music player but also records voice. This way I won't have to carry two separate things.
