i just wanted to know that if i was to attempt to record the on demand shows on virgin media, would it work ?

I'm looking for a record player but unsure whether I should buy a modern one (i.e. those with a USB to transfer to mp3 files) or a vintage one. The only thing I'm looking for is to preserve the analog sound of vinyl, so if both do it then I guess it doesn't really matter. But I don't know, I'm just not sure. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

It's a Olympic model 410 radio/record player. I know most people say that stripping, sanding and refinishing antiques lessens the value but I don't really care because it needs to be done. The top of the wooden case has the most wear and damage. Nearly all of the lacquer or whatever was on it has peeled and flaked off on most of the outside of the case. Just rubbing it a bit will cause more to flake off exposing the bare wood. A small chunk of wood is missing from the corner of the lid and in one spot the wood is pulled up and needs to be glued back down. Inside the case looks fine but the outside is bad.. really bad.. looks like trash bad. How would I go about restoring the wood? Sand it? Use a solvent to get the remaining finish off? Then stain it? Lacquer it? I really have no idea what I'm doing but the radio was free so I don't have much to lose. Also, the bare wood that is exposed does have a grain pattern that matches whatever stain or lacquer that was applied. Maybe that would help someone in identifying the material/finish.

Have you ever heard of all these little holidays that no one really celebrates.
I think that if people celebrated holidays every day then people would get less bored with their lives. Like the 15th is mcdonalds day so everyone would be goin to mcdonalds that day.
And then there's 420 of course.. haha
And then 16th is high five day so you'd give everyone a high five! And then the 30th is national honesty day. So you would tell the truth the whole day. I think it would be awesome if more people celebrated these holidays

I found a record player, it's a 3 speed and it's new in the box. And It's €59 and the lady who was working said it was great she had one too and liked to play Bee Gees records on it. The store looked like the kind of place where they sell the cheaper versions of stuff, Like the electronics in Ross and Marshalls type of stores, you know?
And I don't know much about record players and it seems like a really good deal cause I don't want to buy used in case it breaks and they don't make the replacements anymore. And I don't trust online. So should I buy it?
Ive tried it in my TV and it wont work. Im wondering if it might be a needle problem and if there is a way I can test to see the needle is okay. Or if maybe I should be trying it in something else. I cant seem to find any speakers or radio's in my house with this kind of an input. It may just be because theyre newer, but I have some older stuff too. Also, is there a way to see if a record is a 33 or a 45... my players has two speeds and Im not sure what to put it on.

To further clarify, there is no kind of volume at all. It is a "Stereo Record Player Model #683-1783 Made for J.C.Penny Cor"
But I cant find anything googling that Model No. (pertinent anyways, with the exception of some replacement parts available)
Its a very simple model with only an on-off switch and a 33-45 switch. And then a power and the two RCA lookin' plugs comin out. Oh and the colors are Red and Black if that helps (though I dont think it makes a difference)
And finally, I dont think anything is wrong with the needle, just kind of throwing something out.
Any way of improving upon the strength of the signal if it is in fact that my TV just isnt receiving it?
Why isn't there more respect for turntablism and breakdancing?
These two elements were what basically started hip hop in the first place - the isolation of the breakbeat took off the way it did because the b-boy crews loved it.
So why isn't there more love for these things, especially breakdancing?
Can we really talk about innovators in hip hop without mentioning them - why or why not? And at what point did these elements start to be left behind (I know they're still out there and some people love them, but I'm talking in general)?
What can I do to get my DVD-VCR RECORDER player to record copy protected movies from cable channels. I can record using the vcr mode but unable to record in the dvd mode, Is there a decoding device or software I can use .

-a memory capacity of 30gb or higher so that lots of music, pics, and full length movies can be held on it
-has extras such as calendar, contacts, schedule
-games can be played on it
-has alarm clock function that will work with its speakers
-has color screens

I've refinished items before so I know how, etc. Is it something that would be worth more to refinish? What about putting money into it to make it work?

My TV options are: Video 1, Video 2, and Channel 3. We watch the satellite on Channel 3 but the DVD recorder/player is only used on Video 2. I tried recording off the dish but I just ended up with a black screen. I know it has somthing to do with the channel option on the TV but I have no idea how to make it so I can record off my dish.

I'm looking for a good guitar/music mag for someone who has been playing for 45 yrs....someone who learned to play listening to jimi records....plays a lot of blues-style. would guitar player or guitar world cut it? are they lame? is there something better available in the USA?
I'm a bass player, not really in a band, and I'm getting a drum machine soon and want to do some recording with that and my bass. Would I be better off getting a four track, or maybe some home recording software? I have Windows Vista by the way. Any suggestions?

My parents recently bought me a retro-look vinyl/cd/radio system so that i could play all of the vinyl i have. I seem to be a bit cursed with vinyl-I have never had a player that has worked for more than a couple of days, and this one was no different. The sound was really tinny and horrible, so my parents took it back and have said that I can choose my own record player that I think is best.
What is the best budget record player out there? After looking on various websites, I am completely confused :S
A local estate/antique dealer advertises on the radio that he buys all gold, silver and platinum items. I thought he might be interested in a silver ice bucket I inherited, but when I showed it to him, he said, "That's plated." and he wasn't interested. Now I'm confused. What does he really mean when he advertises that h buys silver? What difference does it make to him if it's a plated piece?
I'm a sixteen year old girl and I love to use records. I don't know why, I just love the feeling! It makes music feel so much more precious to me, and I would prefer to pay more for rare records from my favourite artists than just to buy a plain CD. I love listening to my dad's old Beatles records.

I am talking vinyl, not cd's. My coolest would be the origional beatles singles on 45 that my mom gave me, and this crazy Russian album.

Yesterday there was a girl who emailed one of the radio stations that I listen to and here's her dilemma. Me and my girlfriend talked about it and ended up arguing about it.
The girl and the guy are married and apparently have been for a few years now. While walking though a mall he walks past a jewelry store and something snapped in his head to think about his girlfriend. Let's call her Kristie. Years ago when he was dating Kristie she told him that her grandmother had given here an old antique watch that didn't work anymore and she wanted to get it fixed. They eventually break up and remain friends. So while walking by the jewelry store he decides to go in and get her a gift card to get the watch fixed. He even tells the wife what he did.
The problem is that now the wife thinks that he's elevated the ex to the same level as her by getting her a gift. She even mentioned that he didn't buy any of his other friends gifts, just this one ex.
What do you guys think?

My girl got on my case because she knows that after me and a girl break up we tend to remain friends. Although I've never bought any of them a gift after we broke up. Her on the other hand feels that an ex should remain an ex. Out of sight, out of mind. Never spoken of ot spoken to, ever again.
Now, the guy had gotten his wife's gift and I'm sure it was a lot better than a gift card but was he wrogn for getting his ex a gift and no one else?
