I mean it can be used more then once, its not impossible to use it more then once. But if it wears out at end of a record and shouldn't be used again then shouldn't the end of a record get damaged by a worn needle that has passed over the rest of the album?

Its just that the needles are reasonably hard to get and you could go threw 100 pretty quick replacing them after every play.

are selling for less than the shipping and handeling. I know they are valued in the hundreds if not more. Can someone please explane that a radio over 70 years old sells for under thirty dollars?

There are a ton of records being released on vinyl and I'd really like to be able to listen to them.

I have Window XP MCE I cannot record videos using Real Player

i've got a 33 in, it's set at 33 not 45, even if it was it wouldn't be playing slowly it would be super fast. but for some reason the vinyl does not play at the normal speed the song would usually play at. i've tested it with several other songs with several other vinyls, and the same thing happens. i think it has something to do with the rubber band underneath the rubber pad the vinyl sits on. i think it might be loose and worn out. is that the problem? would i be able to get a replacement one somewhere if that is the problem? any help/guidance would be appreciated. thanks.

... given that not necessarily all parts and components that make up a multimedia application has got anything to do with IT... e.g. a black and while polaroid picture taken with an antique camera or the sound of an acoustic piano recorded using an old cassete player are not exactly IT...

I'm looking into buying my mother a vintage turntable for christmas. Being a 16 year old youngin', I know absolutely nothing about them. I want to play vinyls, lps, and of course, records. Also I don't want the type that plays CDs and is all 'refurbished' fake vintage. I'd really like to get a genuine record player, with a wooden cover.

I'm looking on E-bay, but I'm weary of the condition. I don't really know what to look for in deciding what 'good condition' is. And this sounds stupid, but how does the sound come out of the turntable? Do I need to buy separate speakers? What are some reliable brands? I think Dual is a brand, right? Are there key terms I need to know when looking for turn tables? C'mon oldsters, school me!!

I have a medical condition caused by electronic radiation. Lack of energy, sleep and buz noise in the head etc. This comes from cellphone masts,TV, computers, etc. Mostly microwave radiation. When I holiday in the wilds for 2 weeks this goes away. I once saw a quarts crystal diode connected to a flat toroid coil (areal) that neutralize electronic radiation but also stops a cellphone from working in its vicinity (a few meter). This is desireable. Where can I buy sutch a diode? Tried websites from midnightscience to antique radio. If sutch diodes are no longer available, what is the angle to cut a quarts crystal to produce this effect? It must both recieve and transmit the same signal neutralising it to a great degree. There is a pendant called a Q-link on the market. If this is worn for a month or so, it protects against radiation. I don,t want this.(already got one) I want the other one with the radio crystal. Can you help?

I just bought a dell notebook and discovered it has no line input. one of the reasons I purchased this computer is to record old records and cassette tapes onto my hard drive and eventually burn them onto a cd.

I do have 4 usb ports open, and 1 EEE1394 that is not in use. Is there an external device I can hook up to a chord running to my record player (i would prefer that the end going into this device is a 1/8 in headphone like jack as it plugs into my old, old stereo headphone jack to capture the sound.)

Any help would be appreciated. thx

I need just a portion of a song because the whole song is too big for my website. I have realplayer & windows media, thx for your help!!!

My dad has an old record player he wants to give me. Only problem is the needle needs replaced. It is a realistic Lab-3000 precision turntable. I wrote down the numbers and letters on the stylus and cartridge. The numbers and letters are:

Shure RSEB
Realistic r47eb

I can't find an exact replacement because it's too old at least I think. Is there any equivalent to this stylus and cartridge I can buy? Or anywhere I can get the exact stylus? I'm pretty sure only the needle needs replaced. Everything else is in perfect condition. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

I have a ton of vinyl records and would like to be able to put them onto my computer so I can transfer them to an iPod or a Zune so I can listen to them. How do you get music off of vinyl and onto a computer in Mp3 format? I have a record player and a computer, but no idea how to link the 2. Suggestions?

I know there are free songs out there to download, but what format do they need to be in so that they will work on a portable CD player?

Thanks.
Thanks alfcahill, but I'm talking about the type that a protable CD player can read. Most on the net are MP3 and that doesn't work on my son's aparently. I've tried it, no luck. Not sure what else it would play.

my home dvd player is a samsung DVD HR-720 and my PC is a notebook toshiba A110-153.
Some DVD's (-RW) have been recorded on the samsung home player which is also a recorder and still don't work on my PC.

i thought about buying a computer from ibuypower.com instead of alienware because it's cheaper. i dont know if this is a wise choice. i wanted to know... is this a good build?

For a project at school, Doing a project about phonographs and to be honest, if anyone can give a easy description of what a phonograph is and how it contributed to the 20's, that will be appreciated

I have LOTs of vinyl (and some tapes) which I would like to listen to on an MP3 player. When I say I want the optimum way, my equipment is a 2.8Ghz P4 1.5GHz, with a Sharp CD-BP series stereo. Not an audiophiles choice of equipment, but of a standard that meets my needs happily.

There are ouputs for headphones. There are the main spkrs plus the option of a rear pair (but no bass). This unit is the dedicated input source for the PC (record deck via Aux input). This is the dedicated source that would feed into the PC which would convert between media (this is legal). I would in fact burn CDs and MP3's.

What is the best way to connect them? I could use the stereo record input via Line-In on the sound card. Or I could connect to the motherboard Line-in inputs. My worry is that if I use th speaker as th driver source, one mistake once will blow the front end into the orbit of Mars.

I could use the headphone output.
There are several options, and some carry risks. I am not the first persoin with this application. What is the best answer? Is there a special hardware solution I could build?

For a one-off job I would do one oth th things listed, but This is on a larger scale.

I would appreciate any help from someone who has done this on a largee scale.

I want to record a video that is in windows media player but i think hypercam does not let me do it because of some technical reasons. Anyone knows other softwares that does the same function and is compatible with windows media player? (I know that gamecam is also the same but not sure if it works ,and i dont want to waste my time figuring out if it does so if anybody has experience already please share)

My most recent dream definitely seemed to have some symbolism hidden in it, but I cannot quite place it.
When the dream began, I was standing outside of a 24 hour diner/ truck stop type place in the middle of the night, with maybe six or seven other people, all about my same age, roughly even numbers of males and females. I had the feeling that I knew them, but could not relate any of them to people I know in real life. As we began to enter the restaurant, I noticed that next to the door, a newspaper was taped to the wall. There was some print on it, which I could not read, as well as a big photo. The photo was that sillouhette of a female which you see above women's rest rooms. For some reason, I felt very uncomfortable at the sight of that newspaper, and sensed a feeling of dread as I entered.
The dream then switched scenes immediately. It was now morning, and our group was standing at the entrance of an old, farmhouse type home in a residential neighborhood. It looked like it had been quite nice at one time, but was now in a gloomy state of disrepair. Someone who I did not recognize came to open the door for us, and we all entered. I didn't know why we were there at all. As we began to walk through the house, I thought that it looked pretty nice at first glance. There weas nice furniture, wallpaper, carpeting, antiques... but as we went from one room to the next, I noticed that something was not quite right. Each room had something a little creepy mixed in with the "normal stuff." For example, the parlor would have a sofa, ottoman, old TV set, record player, a mirror, a dresser, and a statue of a skeleton with a knife in its head, hanging by the ankles. Each room had more and more creepy things in it, and I began to feel more an dmore uncomfortable. I also came to the realization that each time we went through a room, our group got smaller. There were less and less people, until finally, I was standing all alone in a dark, depressing room with a gaping hole in the floor. I felt like crying. It felt dreadful. I decided to open a rickety, old door and step outside. Nearby, there was a large tree which I began trying to climb. I had the terrifying sensation that if I did not get off the ground immediately, something unspeakable would happen to me. I woke up screaming.

it's a floor model the top lifts up & you can see the tubes .the front has two doors where there's a dial, off &on switch and a speaker

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive-compulsive_personality_disorder

Here is some info from that website, and my explanation of things... I really think he needs

to be diagnosed!!!

The DSM-IV-TR, a widely used manual for diagnosing mental disorders, defines that for a

patient to be diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, they must exhibit at

least four of the following traits:

1) Preoccupation with details, rules, lists, order, organization, bodily functions, or

schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost
2) Showing perfectionism that interferes with task completion (e.g., is unable to complete a

project because his or her own overly strict standards are not met)
3)Excessive devotion to work and productivity to the exclusion of leisure activities and

friendships (not accounted for by obvious economic necessity)
4)Being overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethics, or

values (not accounted for by cultural or religious identification)
5)Inability to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no sentimental

value
6)Reluctance to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly his or

her way of doing things
7)Adopting a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as

something to be hoarded for future catastrophes
8)Showing rigidity and stubbornness
9)Urge to perfect every little thing

It is important to note that while a person may exhibit any or all of the characteristics of

a personality disorder, it is not diagnosed as a disorder unless the person has trouble

leading a normal life due to these issues.

As for my boyfriend, and the things that make me think he has OCPD, numbers coinciding with

the numbers above for the traits......

#1 Preoccupation... If you try to change any chain of events that he has scheduled for

himself... durring any part of the day, or are going somewhere with him, he will start a

fight being pushy about your timing, or be stubborn to changes others want to make in the

schedule ,even if it's me staying up an extra 10 minutes to spend time with him! It effects

his own personal schedule that he makes for himself down to the minute. He would rather

fight for an hour instead of enjoying the extra 10 minutes! As for rules, they have to be

his. As for details, he explained to me the way he likes to salt his food at least 3 times,

before I had to tell him I don't care how you salt your food, it's your food, I just don't

want to hear about it. I've heard it enough! He hates it when he can't seem to poop at the

same time every day! He will complain about it to me while he's on the toilet, every time it

happens! Well, there are lots of examples for #1, but I don't need to list them all. He just

looses the point of any thing! How can we go out to have a good time when he starts bitching

at me at half day to get all the things done around the house? Then he decides to complain

that I'm not moving, or getting around fast enough when we're about to go out. He rather

argue about it, than be patient for me to finish getting around. I've even tried being

totally on time, even early with my getting around, and he can't seem to stop himself! I

thought the point to going out together was to enjoy eachother, not put eachother in a bad

mood from unnecessary complaining!

#2 Perfectionism... He won't finish things he doesn't think he can meet his own standards

on! Ex... putting away freezer items, organizing cabinets, fixing the waterfall he broke,

the IQ test he quit on, tuning his own drums... He has me do those things he can't meet his

own standards on because he thinks I can!

#3 Excessive devotion to work.... He believes that all things you need to get done around

the house need to be done before you can go have fun with friends, or even hang out with

your sister! As far as I'm concerned, things around the house will be there tomorrow! Today,

if the opportunity presents itself, you should be able to LIVE, and stop the doing, so that

you can actually take advantage of this opportunity you have today which won't be there

tomorrow! This is particularly a problem when there are several days to finish things around

the house, but today, your sister asked you to come over, and have a game night with the

kids! Tate thinks I need to come home & finish everything when I have NEVER had a game night

with my sister & the kids! He might even be at home doing nothing, but he still thinks you

need to be there finishing "your" work around the house!

#4 Being overconscientious... He has a tendancy to be overbearing in his own opinions of

whether something is right or wrong. What he thinks is right, is usually NOT right, but yet

he seems to think so, calls them morals, and values, and tries to force me to HIS way only,

even if it's me who is right! He still seems to validate everything to himself even if his

reasoning makes no sense at all! Tate is so inflexible that it's painful to me, because it's

so unfair of him! You know of all of his double standards! None of it really makes sense at

all!

#5 Inability to discard.... He shows no visable sign of this at all.

#6 Reluctance.... Well, when he delegates tasks to others, he gets specific, and if he does

not, he's always angry that you didn't meet his standards, or if you do not bend over

backwards to do it his way, he gets angry. Ex... Even though I was supposed to get to design

all the landscaping, and it was supposed to be my thing, He couldn't let me just do it. He

decided he needed to be in control of what went into the landscaping, how it was planted,

and arranged. I thought this was supposed to be mine! I didn't get to plant alot of my

favorite things in my own yard because he didn't like them!!!!! BTW, every party that we

have had has been a struggle because I used to plan all the parties in my house, but after I

moved in with the boyfriend... Every time we are going to have a party, even if I am

supposed to be planning it, somehow, he decides he needs to take over the whole thing! He

won't let me decide what's for dinner, or what we're going to do durring the party. I

planned a Halloween party, and was so upset because he wouldn't let me do it my way! I

wanted to cook... he decided we should have it catered. I wanted to decorate the inside &

outside of the house... he decided the outside of the house was enough. I decided to serve a

punch for the kids... he wanted to serve pop. I wanted to buy a pumpkin for each kid to

carve... he said NO! I wanted to get treats for all the kids... he said NO! I wanted to make

or buy some cupcakes for the kids... he said NO! This whole project was supposed to be mine,

as was my Birthday party, and he seemed to either take over EVERYTHING, or complain, and

accuse me of being some kind of liar when he didn't get his way, or I thought I was plain &

clear about something(even though I knew with him it was all a catch 22!) and he decided I

didn't mean what I said, even though he just wasn't listening, or he wasn't clear himself.

It's really rediculous how either he has to do it, or I get rung through the ringer if I do

something my way, or the way I said I was going to if it wasn't his way!

#7 Money... He doesn't want me to spend any, and thinks I have a spending problem, even

though I'm only making sure the house is stocked with groceries! He thinks he can just go

buy himself and others tickets to a whole bunch of Sox games, but if I want to buy myself a

record player and some vintage vinyl albums, it's not okay! If he's planning the party,

there's no spending limit if it's his idea, but for my Birthday party, he wanted to be

frugal, and not allow me to do a wine tasting, and spend 0 on wine because he wanted to

stock the bar that he hadn't since the Halloween party, even though my guests were coming

for a wine tasting party! They weren't drinking hard liquor, and that was going to be 0

to restock! I told him what I was going to get wine wise, and he told me to restock the

liquor. I went, bought it all, then he complained at me for spending too much, even though I

know he would have spent the same if he went! Like... it's okay for him to do it, but not

okay for me to! The same thing happened on the same day with the groceries, and party foods!

Then he said that since I spent 0 on my birthday (which was really 0 on groceries,

0 party snacks & food for 2 parties, 0 for hard liquor, and 0 for wine), that when

he got his tax return, he was going to spend it all on what ever he wanted, and I couldn't

spend a dime of it! That's kind of like him telling me all year that he was bringing in more

money to the house, even though he wasn't, plus, he refused to include the monthly child

support in my amount!

#8 Rigidity and stubborness... Gosh, I could go on forever on this one, but I won't. This

applys to everything in our life together. My way is never bent toward, or a consideration.

Everything has to be his way, even if it's not the best thing, or right or fair in any way

shape or form.

#9 Urge to perfect every little thing... Mostly, he wants to perfect me! This perfection,

however, is what he, himself has made of it, whether it is normal, or not!
Actually, ACPD is different tan OCD. I have read info all over the place, and let me tell you, of all that I've read, including everything else I thought he might have, this is seriously the one if you add in anger management issues. I am actually really easy going & don't have a tendancy to fight unless someone is being unfair. I know the way he is is not normal. I've never met someone with these issues before!
I meant OCPD.... typos!
He has a false sense that only what he believes to be the truth is the truth, and only as he believes is what is right! It's so frustrating sometimes because he just doesn't understand, or comprehend himself being wrong about anything. He lies to himself about a situation after he manipulates it & then believes his own lies. I bang my head against the wall every day!
I can guarantee that if this didn't effect his every day life, and mine, I wouldn't have posted it! This is a long time thing going on. IT is more than just some normal problem, because if it was indeed normal, than what a person would normally do to solve a problem would actually work! NO PROBELMS EVER GET SOLVED!! To everyone else, the answers are simple to see, as they are to me, but a solution cannot ever come if one person is so dillusional that nothing makes sense!!!!! I don't have a problem admitting when I am wrong people!

Imagine crying yourself to sleep at night because you can't get through to the person you love!

He loves you, but will continue to hurt you, because he just doesn't get that he's not always right!

I REALLY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE THINK THAT A PERSON JUST THINKS THE OTHER PERSON IS SCREWY BECAUSE THEY DON'T GET IT!!!!!!!!!! The problem is that I do! There IS NO OTHER ANSWER here!!!! He's got something wrong!!! I am so ready to take him to a psychologist!
