Many of these popular ipods and such seem to require subscription services, fees and prepacked music and downloading, none of which interest me for using a portable mp3 player. I want a small and durable mp3 player that i can simply copy mp3s that i have created and have on my computer to the portable mp3 player and listen to while excercising, working, riding, etc.. Need a decent sized storage, at least 1.5 GB. And ability to arrange the play pattern of mp3 files. As an actor, i record monoglouges and scene scripts in audio portions, and need the ability to save them to a portable mp3 player that i can use to rehearse and memorize scripts through repeated listening, pausing at certain points, etc. As well as music playback. NO subscription or downloading based players, just straight mp3 players, with voice recording option would be nice. And affordable. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about buying a new record player. I don't want to spend a lot of money. Around 100$ or under would be ideal. I might go with the Crosley brand but I've seen some pretty bad reviews. I just want to be able to listen to my old 78's and 45's.

Hi! It's me again. I wanna know how to record songs off of Youtube, the radio, stuff like that. But I don't know how. Do you plug it into the USB port and play the song? Do you hold it really close to the sound? I dunno. I tend to be pretty good with computers, so this one little problem is kinda embarrassing. I'd be really thankful! =]

out puts for it. so if i hook it up into a cd red and yellow i have to play my stereo up to 60 to 74 decibel in order to listen to my records. what do i do now

The Palin interview
******************
"It is embarrassing to have to spell this out, but for the record let me explain why Gov. Palin's answer to the "Bush Doctrine" question -- the only part of the recent interview I have yet seen over here in China -- implies a disqualifying lack of preparation for the job.

Not the mundane job of vice president, of course, which many people could handle. Rather the job of potential Commander in Chief and most powerful individual on earth.

The spelling-out is lengthy, but I've hidden most of it below the jump.

Each of us has areas we care about, and areas we don't. If we are interested in a topic, we follow its development over the years. And because we have followed its development, we're able to talk and think about it in a "rounded" way. We can say: Most people think X, but I really think Y. Or: most people used to think P, but now they think Q. Or: the point most people miss is Z. Or: the question I'd really like to hear answered is A.

Here's the most obvious example in daily life: Sports Talk radio.

Mention a name or theme -- Brett Favre, the Patriots under Belichick, Lance Armstrong's comeback, Venus and Serena -- and anyone who cares about sports can have a very sophisticated discussion about the ins and outs and myth and realities and arguments and rebuttals.

People who don't like sports can't do that. It's not so much that they can't identify the names -- they've heard of Armstrong -- but they've never bothered to follow the flow of debate. I like sports -- and politics and tech and other topics -- so I like joining these debates. On a wide range of other topics -- fashion, antique furniture, the world of restaurants and fine dining, or (blush) opera -- I have not been interested enough to learn anything I can add to the discussion. So I embarrass myself if I have to express a view.

What Sarah Palin revealed is that she has not been interested enough in world affairs to become minimally conversant with the issues. Many people in our great land might have difficulty defining the "Bush Doctrine" exactly. But not to recognize the name, as obviously was the case for Palin, indicates not a failure of last-minute cramming but a lack of attention to any foreign-policy discussion whatsoever in the last seven years.

Two details in Charles Gibson's posing of the question were particularly telling. One was the potentially confusing way in which he first asked it. On the page, "the Bush Doctrine" looks different from "the Bush doctrine." But when hearing the question Palin might not have known whether Gibson was referring to the general sweep of Administration policy -- doctrine with small d -- or the rationale that connected 9/11 with the need to invade Iraq, the capital-D Doctrine. So initial confusion would be understandable -- as if a sports host asked about Favre's chances and you weren't sure if he meant previously with the Packers or with the Jets. Once Gibson clarified the question, a person familiar with the issue would have said, "Oh, if we're talking about the strategy that the President and Condoleezza Rice began laying out in 2002...." There was no such flash of recognition.

The other was Gibson's own minor mis-statement. American foreign policy has long recognized the concept of preemptive action: if you know somebody is just about to attack you, there's no debate about the legitimacy of acting first. (This is like "shooting in self-defense.") The more controversial part of The Bush Doctrine was the idea of preventive war: acting before a threat had fully emerged, on the theory that waiting until it was fully evident would mean acting too late.

Gibson used the word "preemptively" -- but if a knowledgeable person had pushed back on that point ("Well, preemption was what John F. Kennedy had in mind in acting against the imminent threat of Soviet missiles in Cuba"), Gibson would certainly have come back to explain the novelty of the "preventive war" point. Because he knows the issue, a minor mis-choice of words wouldn't get in the way of his real intent.

Sarah Palin did not know this issue, or any part of it. The view she actually expressed -- an endorsement of "preemptive" action -- was fine on its own merits. But it is not the stated doctrine of the Bush Administration, it is not the policy her running mate has endorsed, and it is not the concept under which her own son is going off to Iraq.

How could she not know this? For the same reason I don't know anything about European football/soccer standings, player trades, or intrigue. I am not interested enough. And she evidently has not been interested enough even to follow the news of foreign affairs during the Bush era.

A further point. The truly toxic combination of traits GW Bush brought to decision making was:

1) Ignorance
2) Lack of curiosity
3) "Decisiveness"

That is, he was not broadly informed to begin with (point 1). He did not seek out new informat
That is, he was not broadly informed to begin with (point 1). He did not seek out new information (#2); but he nonetheless prided himself (#3) on making broad, bold decisions quickly, and then sticking to them to show resoluteness.

We don't know for sure about #2 for Palin yet -- she could be a sponge-like absorber of information. But we know about #1 and we can guess, from her demeanor about #3. Most of all we know something about the person who put her in this untenable role.

I want to be able to play an old childrens album (45), but obviously need a record player. So, when I buy the turntable, how do I hook it up? Can I hook it up to play through my computer's speakers via onboard audio? Or do I need a separate receiver?

I have the ability to hook up my record player to my computer but am wondering what software I should get to record the tracks with. I love my vinyl but it's only going to last for a finite time if I continue to spin it.

I am going to be selling antiques mostly, like old radios and things. I may also sell modern electronics, like computer parts. What is a good ID?

1. In what movie do you hear: "I'm an excellent driver." ?
2. What team was Lynn Swan ,on?
3. Who was the Beatles original bass player?
4. Name 2 teams that Sam Huff was on.
5. What band from the 60's recorded, "This Door Swings Both Ways."?
6. Who won "Album of The Year" tonight on the CMA show?
7. What positon did Whitey Ford play?
8. What vintage western star of tv do I ADORE?

Okay,
So It's summer and I usually go to the beach throughout the day.
There's this series I watch on TV and I'd love to record it for as to not miss it.

Could you please tell me how to?

Yes. so i have a video i recorded on my camera and i saved it on my IMAC computer and now i want to put it on a blank dvd i have. I dont know how too can some one help me? or is there something online similar?

i thought about buying a computer from ibuypower.com instead of alienware because it's cheaper. i dont know if this is a wise choice. i wanted to know... is this a good build? pay no attention to the speakers i have good ones

Hi,
I've been facing a problem lately while recording audio and saving it as mp3 files. I use creative mediasource player and its mp3 plugin to record and save the audio as mp3. Earlier I would set the recording source to 'stereo mix' and play the music and press the record button to record it. After stopping the recording i was automatically prompted to save the file. Nowadays, when i follow the same process, i get a small file of 4-5kb in size saved as an mp3. On playing this file, there is no audio to be heard. It appears as if there's no audio data in this mp3 file at all.

I'm surprised as to why am i not able to save the audio as mp3/wav/wma format even after recording the audio thru stereo mix thru creative's mediasource software. I was able to do this successfully earlier. I dont know what has changed since then that the recording doesnt work.

Using stereo mix to record thru 'audacity' works very well though.

Eagerly awaiting your kind and helpful replies.

Thanks.
I would prefer to use mediasource to audacity coz mediasource has the convenient 'record sync' option. With audacity, i get lots of extra audio length which is added b4 and after the audio is played and stopped. Record sync starts the recording only when the audio is played and stops the recording when the audio is stopped.

I recorded me playing my video game on Youtube for a Lets Play and i can view the video/audio on my dvd player but when i put it on my computer it says the CD is blank but it isn't. It is viewable on my dvd but not my computer.( 10 points to best answer)

I heard it was legal to download songs off of limewire (or any of the big file sharing programs) if you own the CD that they are on. Since vinyl records have superior sound quality over MP3 music files I was wondering if i could buy a vinyl record then dl the songs on it off of limewire for portable MP3 player use legally. If it is legal, that rocks. If not, oh well.

I already have a ton of music on my computer, I just need it to be portable, and I really only need 8 hours of music on it. What is the cheapest, most reliable, easiest to use device? Can I load songs into several playlists? Does it have a simple menu that lets me select from multiple playlists? Is it plug and record - just plug into a Windows computer, and record the songs I want on it quickly and easily, automatically converting the file format?

I got two Technics, now what mixer should a get?

Any reccomendations brands, modles ect.

That is for turntablism/scratch dj.

I think so Jordan was great for his time but in the 00s the defense tougher and its more competitve compared to when he played

Jordan did come back to play for the Wizards in 2002 and he had a 37-45 record that shows you the league today is better then it was back when Jordan played and today he would be just be a good/average player but not great

i have this record player and im an idiot when it comes to speakers. i would like ones that would fit into the front speaker hole thats labeled there but i dont see any that plugs into that. if i could get links or something it would be much apreciated. thanks

I'm a music junkie, but I'm starting to get into old school rock and alternative music. I was just wondering what the advantage is to using record players? Are there some good old albums that are available on records, but not on CD's?
Just tell me why you like record players-- and if you're young that hepls even more bc I was born in the times of cassettes and CDs.
Thanks!

Hi!

I have a general electric stereo, phonograph, 8 track system. Now, the volume works, but it doesn't work correctly.

When I pop the on and off knob out, which is also the volume knob, I receive a lot of static and "pop" from the speaker. Only one speaker seems to be having any sound. Sometimes when I use the stereo both speakers work. This tells me both speakers work. But when I use the phonograhp or record player, it mutes the left side speaker.

This system is about 37 years old. It's clean inside and out, the record player works fine. The only problem is the volume.

That's as much information as I can provide.

Thank you in advance!

I set the needle down on the track and within seconds its collected a ball of black stuff. I'm assuming its from the record itself. Which is bad. How do I make it so can can listen to my records without ruining them in the process?
