According to the BLS numbers, CPI-U was 218.815 in June, 2008. In June, 1929 it was 17.1. That works out to an increase by a factor of 12.8 in the preceding 79 years. So, if the price of the radio had increased by the average inflation rate, it would cost about $4,440 in 2008.
In other words, radios were hideously expensive in 1929 compared to the ones you can buy today. You get better quality and cheaper prices today, and it looks like an even better deal if you factor in the price inflation of most other goods and services.
